i was thinking of staying 4-5 nights at the value resorts in the park, but i also wanted to do universal, so thought maybe i could stay offsite for 2 days...
a far as rental car for 2 days, covered through my visa rewards card, so no extra fee. but would about my luggage? for example i check out of disney hotel in am, and check in isnt till 4pm in the other. any suggestions? worth doing this?

Unless you get a better deal at the off-site hotel I would stay put and drive over to the other parks. Not sure how much time you will spend at Universal, I know it wouldn't take us 2 days. :lookaroun

I would follow tigsmom's advice. The only way I would do any different is if I was going to stay at one of Universal's 3 hotels. This is an option you might want to explore as there are a few good perks to staying on property at Universal, namely unlimited express pass.

Just in case you haven't looked, Universal is only 15 minutes from Pop Century (assuming there are no accidents on I4).

but can universal studios and islands of adventure be done in one day?
Yes, but you are going to have to rush a little to do it if you run into a crowd. If you will have 2 days I would take them so you can go at a more vacation pace.

so then it would be convenient to stay offsite near those parks for 2 days and have my rental car? cheaper than paying taxi or other form of transportation

If you are not going to stay at one of Universal's three hotels I would go ahead and stay at your Disney resort. If you move you are going to have to rent a car or get a cab plus the hassle and time of moving. If there are no perks attached to that such as being able to walk to the parks, free unlimited express pass, etc you are better off staying put at your WDW resort. Remember time is money. Taking several hours to save a few bucks simply is not worth it.
