BORD BIA is to match the magic of Disneyland Paris with promotions of quality Irish beef and dairy products at the holiday centre today.
It is one of the events being held in 32 countries to give Ireland’s €7.1 billion export trade in food, drink and horticulture a huge boost.
An Irish village will be created at the Disney resort which has attracted over 160 million visitors in the past 14 years.
The resort is also hosting its first St Patrick’s Day parade today.
Visitors will be able to taste Irish food in between meeting Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse and being enchanted by the other attractions.
Bord Bia chief executive Aidan Cotter said St Patrick’s Day is one of the world’s greatest holidays.
“It is a concept that immediately understood and a brand with enormous goodwill. No other country in the world has anything like it.”
He said Bord Bia is keen to deepen the connection with its customers overseas and to use the occasion to promote Ireland the Food Island.
“Additionally, it affords Bord Bia the opportunity to network with retail and foodservice buyers, while also winning the goodwill of Irish Embassies, Irish communities and business interests internationally.”
Agriculture and Food Minister Mary Coughlan will lead the programme of promotions with a visit a Bord Bia Irish beef promotion in Delvita stores during a visit to the Czech Republic while Food Minister Brendan Smith will officiate at a number of promotions in Hungary.
A new recipe leaflet containing six traditional Irish dishes has been translated into Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Italian and French.
Some 14,000 leaflets have been distributed to all Irish Embassies.
Lunches and dinners hosted in each of the embassies throughout the St Patrick’s Day celebrations will have a particular Irish food and drink theme.
