Booking Universal Through AAA

We're starting to plan our first trip to Universal -- but it won't take place until a over a year from now, at the end of April 2018.

We are AAA members and supposedly there are "discounts" available if I book my tickets through AAA, but I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this:

1 - Is it much cheaper to book your tickets (and/or tickets + onsite hotel package) through AAA, or is the discount going to mimic what I'd find at Undercover Tourist?
2 - What is currently required to take advantage of onsite AAA discounts at Universal restaurants and shops that offer them (do I need a special voucher proving I booked through AAA, or just my AAA card)?
3 - If I book through AAA, is it a big hassle if a discount offer comes out and I have to have them cancel and rebook later? Is there a particular time period (3 months out, 6 months out, etc.) where I can be satisfied that it's "safe" to book because all possible special offers have already been released?

Many thanks for your help!

I went to our local AAA when I wanted to book our June trip to Universal. The room prices they quoted me were the exact same as the ones I could look up online at the Universal website, and I found better prices on the tickets at Undercover tourist. I can't help with the discounts at the restaurants and shops because I haven't been able to find a definitive answer myself!

I can't speak for all AAA clubs but in our office we offer discounts on park tickets for members, $50 credit which can be used on a dining plan or photos, free unlimited express pass and early HP admission. You would pick up the voucher at a designated desk at the hotel and I assume that's what you would show as proof of membership.
Cancellations with Universal are usually up to final payment but some offices may charge a cancellation fee. If a promo comes out I'm sure a modification can be done if the room cat you've booked is available.
I hope this helps. Enjoy!

We are going this week for the first time and booked through AAA. There is a 10% off discount on meals and merchandise and some shows at city walk I believe. Also when the two nights free deal came out I just called our travel agent and she rebooked our trip with the deal- no fee. Not sure if they're all like that but our local AAA has been great.
Good luck!
