Which Imagineers get to get to attend the Blue Sky meetings?
Do you only get to attend if you have a certain occupation in Imagineering?

That all depends on who is heading up the project as well as the scope of the project. As you know WDI works in teams and if a certain team is asked to come up with something then you may be picked to join in a blue sky meeting. Not everyone on that team maybe invited to join in.

Some Imagineers have never been asked to attend a blue sky session where others are asked right away.

Sometimes an Imagineer will be called in because of their expertise in a certain area/field. It all depends. There is not one position where you're constantly being asked to be a part of blue sky sessions unless you're on your way to becoming a Disney Legend.

Look at it this way, let's say that WDI has the funding to build a major E ticket attraction and the parks have asked to use some new advanced AA figures, then you best best that someone from R&D and Engineering will be a part of that meeting.

If it's a show or parade concept, most likely they'll pull someone in from the DEG to set in on the meeting or a show producer from the WDI department.

If it's a new resort, you're gonna find some architects filling the seats of the meeting.

Obviously the bigger the scope of the project the bigger the session will be and the more will be invited

I do know in the past WDI heads have asked 2 different groups of Imagineers to work on one project, where the 2 teams where in a head to head battle royale for whose team would win the bid.

Thanks for the info. I'm just trying to sort out everything in my head.
I start college in a little more than a year, and am still deciding what I want to do as an occupation. But I do know that I want to work for Disney.:king:

First of all: Major in something you want and are good in. Imagineers will tell you: Don't try to be something you're not. Focus on your talents and strengths and as Walt once said, "plus it." There is no one major that will grant you a fast pass to become an imagineer.

Granted I look back now and wish I would of taken other classes, majored in other things and went to a different school. But you can't look back, keep focused. If I would of changed my past I might have never entered the contest or made finals.

I would also recommend doing the Disney College Program but. . .

You CAN'T enter the ImagiNations contest if you have worked for Disney before. So there is a catch.

I would recommend this:

Go to school, enter the ImagiNations contest your JUNIOR YR. if you make finals then maybe you can get an internship, if nothing is offered internship wise for Imagineering then do the Disney College program your senior yr.

But there's another catch: you can enter the ImagiNations contest up to 3 times (your junior yr, senior yr, and then 1 yr after you graduate, according to the rules of the contest for last year: note this could change for upcoming years).

So there are many roads to travel, depends on which you wanna take. You can put all your eggs into a basket (the ImagiNations Contest) and hope you make finals or you can do the Disney College Program and try to network within the parks.

I know of people who worked at WDW in college and tried to make WDI connections, some did and some didn't. I know people who have entered the ImagiNations contest multiple times and never made finals. I know people who entered ImagiNations 1 year and didn't make it and the next year they entered and won the contest. I know of people who got internships via the contest and weren't asked to stay on with the company after their internship ended, I know of others who entered the ImagiNations contest, didn't make finals and got hired on and are working at WDI right now.

There's no right or wrong path....keep your eye on the prize, be humble, and just learn, take it all in.....

if you have any more questions just ask.

Thanks for the more info terp. I was actually going to ask about not being able to do the contest if you did the college internship.
I'll probably think of more questions soon.
