Hard to believe but Blue Sky Cellar is currently undergoing another update, it should reopen on Fri the 28th. Word says this time featuring The Little Mermaid- Ariel's Under Sea Adventure.

In the mean time The Disney Parks Blog is showing off some new attraction posters that will grace the walls in the cellar and your able to purchase.

This building in Disney California Adventure park previews the “blue sky” ideas of Imagineers, with models and sketches that reflect the evolving landscape of the theme park. But before you peek at all the Imagineers’ handiwork, take a moment to enjoy the new artwork on the walls of the entryway. (And find out how you can purchase your own copy very soon.)

I wonder what the real opening date is - the blog says the 28th, but the online calendar and Cast publications say it's the 27. I guess we'll find out on Thursday..

I know it's been said that the new exhibit will focus on TLM, but the current exhibit already gives quite an extensive overview of the ride. Maybe new models or art? Hopefully we'll see more artwork for Buena Vista St. and updates for other parts of the park.

An update from MiceAge:

Editor's Note 1/26: On Thursday the Disneyland publicity machine kicks into high gear to debut the new Memories campaign projection show on the Small World facade that starts this weekend. Next door at DCA they'll open a refreshed exhibit in the Blue Sky Cellar, with lots of new artwork and info on the Mermaid ride. (It's clocking in at just under six minutes in length now.) There will be plenty to pour over in the new exhibit for Mermaid fans. Sketches of the new Disney Theater coming this spring as the replacement of Playhouse Disney are also planned, as well as some tantalizing glimpses at Phase Two of DCA's Hollywood area remake. - Al Lutz

It's amazing to me how often they update and refresh the Blue Sky Cellar!

They could have certainly left the previous Little Mermaid exhibits in there for four more months until the ride opened in May. But instead, they are swapping out artwork and sketches and models and giving us a new thing to look at for 90 to 120 days until the ride actually opens. Plus they are apparently updating stuff about the Paradise Garden and Hollywood projects as well.

And then, in May when Mermaid opens and there's no need to "preview" it any more, I imagine there will be another refresh and new exhibit for summer that focuses on the Buena Vista Street Project. And dare I say, in the fall or before Christmas another update rolls through that sheds more light on Cars Land?

TDA and WDI are really quite clever about using the Cellar to great advantage, and they are clearly playing to both the casual tourists trying to figure out what's behind all those walls, as well as the local AP'ers who are keeping tabs on the DCA makeover month after month after month. Bravo WDI and TDA! :sohappy:

Here's a preview of what we can expect to see once the Cellar reopens! :D

Other unique aspects of the exhibit include a full-size glass sample from the attraction entrance marquee that will allow guests to get up close for a tactile experience; a black light painted model of the Ursula scene in the attraction; and the new bird's-eye painting of the Park that comes to life with projected animation.

Some of the highlights of the updated showcase include:

Sketches and layout diagrams for the new attraction, along with three-dimensional models and other art work, all crafted by Imagineers.
A preview of Goofy's Sky School attraction and the new Paradise Pier dining locations that will open later this year.
All-new attraction posters for California Screamin', Mickey's Fun Wheel and Silly Symphony Swings - designed in the style of traditional Disney theme park attraction posters, which have appeared at the entrance to Disneyland Park for more than 50 years.
Concept art for the new park entrance, the Buena Vista Street entry plaza, and the Red Car Trolleys, which will transport guests from the park entrance through Hollywood Land to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Those two guys in the front row, especially the big kid on the left, are really the reason why so much good has been happening in Anaheim now. It's truly a golden era for the Disneyland Resort, and I think we owe a lot of that to Lasseter.

I have personally seen Lassetter hanging out and playing at Disneyland several times over the past few years, and he always looks like he is having the time of his life.

Mr. Lasseter is a true Disneyland fan! :sohappy:

And it isn't just Lassetter who visits on a regular basis, Bob Iger is at the parks quite often as well. You'd be surprised at how often he visits; CM friends of mine tell me they see him backstage at the parks regularly (DCA mostly).

Here's another look at the new animated map, a fun way to showcase what DCA will look like in the Summer of 2012 :)

The parks blog discusses the details of the new BSC exhibit:

One of my favorite parts of the show is the night-time painting of Disney California Adventure park, in the alcove of the screening room. It’s a birds-eye view map that comes to life with 30 moving images that are projected onto the painting. If you stand and watch for a little while, you’ll see bubbles over Little Mermaid, Grizzly Rapids geysers, strikes of lightning at Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, “World of Color” fountains dancing at Paradise Bay and many more. I wonder if you’ll find the “hidden” effect!

Imagineers have used the latest in projection technology to bring this painting to life. It’s reminiscent of the way Walt Disney introduced Disneyland Park to his television guests back in the ‘50s using the latest black-light technology of the time, with a painting by artist Peter Ellenshaw that transformed the park from day to night.

This may be a stupid question, but once all the DCA additions are done (Little Mermaid open, Cars Land operational, Buena Vista Street working, etc) what will Blue Sky Cellar be showcasing? Do we think that WDI will still be showcasing the next big things to happen to the parks? If so, I think it would be great for them to be able to showcase their actual Blue Sky ideas (though I am told WDI doesn't like to let the cat out of the bag, especially on stuff that isn't necessarily going to be built). It would be a great opportunity for Disney to get feedback on stuff before it is planned. Or, will Blue Sky Cellar close and re-open as something else?

There are some rumours that if the current DCA makeover is a big success then phase 2 would be authorised which I imagine would then use the BSC to showcase the next stages. I would add that the rumour is that if enough new visitors to DCA turn up and spend money (not just AP holders going to enjoy park more often as they tend not to spend in shops) then disney would go ahead with the next phase which includes, the new attractions where Maliboomer was, a replacement for goofy sky school and the old brother bear show area to be redeveloped into a new attraction and those are just the ones I can remember.

A new video from the Blue Sky Cellar, featuring Imagineer Alex Grayman talking about the new additions

Walt Disney Imagineers Alex Grayman and Lisa Girolami spoke at the Blue Sky Cellar Refresh media event held at the Disney California Adventure Park last Thursday. Grayman is a show designer and has worked on the Monster's Inc. and Disney Animation attractions. Girolami is a director and senior show producer on The Little Mermaid -- Ariel's Undersea Adventure attraction.
