BLT - Lake/Standard/Magic view?

My family and I stayed at BLT at the end of Oct. 2011, in a studio, and used our DVC points for a "Lake View." We were located on the left side of the building on the 7th floor. The view was just that, a lake. However, when I stepped out on the balcony, looked to the left, I got a great view of MK!
IMO, if we ever stay there again, we'll only request a "standard view," for two reasons:
1. Less points.
2. If I want to see the MK, I can go to the observation deck on the 16th floor, where I can not only get some great pics, but watch "Wishes" with the music piped in from the park to the deck!

The 2 nights we were at BLT, the observation deck was surprisingly, not that crowded. On one night, we viewed "HalloWishes" fireworks on Halloween, and there were probably 50 people there. Considering how long the deck is, we didn't feel crowded at all! However, we did stake out a spot about 15 minutes beforehand (even then, there were only 4 families waiting).
Don't get me wrong, if you can and want to swing the "view" rates, go for it, at least once! All I'm saying is, I've "been there, done that," and realize that for my little family that the view isn't all that important because we're barely in our room.
Happy travels!

We have a lake view grand villa for this past New Year's, and I would definitely take the lake view again. For one thing, the foreground of the Magic Kingdom view is primarily of the BLT parking lot, with the MK pretty far back in the distance. And for another, lake view is fewer points.

The observation deck was crowded, but not uncomfortably so, on Dec. 30. I'd definitely do it again. I was in the MK for the fireworks on Dec 31, and thought the view from BLT was much better.

I'm the other side of it. Next time, I'm splurge for a MK view. The Bay Lake View is fine - when you look at the lake. But the backside of BLT is a C so it means if you are in one of the "arms" your "view" is the building across from you and if you turn your head to the left (or right depending on what side you're on) then you see the lake.

I didn't think this "view" was worth extra. It also made it feel VERY exposed and defeated the point of any view since I just kept the curtains closed. :(

We stayed at BLT the 1st week of Dec 2010 w Lake view and did not find the Balcony crowded. We did run into cold weather and watched Wishes one evening from the elevator tower. Swapping music for warmth was worth it.. We will do lake view on our next trip as well, to me the MK view just included to much of the BLT parking lot for the extra mooolah. Plus watching the boats in the morning along with the water parade at night from our own balcony was great..

We've stayed at BLT multiple times, and go back to the MK view without question. Once we did a Standard view, but requested a north side, outer-facing room on a higher floor. Our request was granted, and we had a 4th floor room (highest floor with standard views) - we had rather decent MK views there. But this of course is dependent on getting lucky with a room request. The first time we stayed at BLT we had booked an MK view. When we walked into the room the curtains were open and the Castle was dead-center of our balcony. My 3 (then) year old gasped in awe. It will keep me going back to the MK view each time - in fact, I'll be exactly there in just 10 more days!!! :sohappy:
