BLT Help

New DVC member planning our first trip with our points. Have a reservation for a Lake View Studio at BLT for 2 weeks. Have heard that the studios are rather small and in fact smaller than some of the moderate resort rooms.

Considering switching to OKW studio instead. We will be spending a fair amount of time between MK and EPCOT and would love the convenience of the location but worried that we will be cramped when we stay in the room. We plan on spending a couple of days away from the parks.

Any advice and assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Cruise Line cabins are small, but we rarely spend time in our rooms. Sister had a BLT suite, so I didn't see studio comparison. I would think that unless you are going to be in your room more than you will be outside of it, even a "cramped" studio in BLT, within walking distance of MK and monorail to TTC/Epcot would be heaven.

Have fun at whichever resort you stay at, please give us a trip report on your decision.

According to AllEars, the BLT Studios are indeed about 300 square feet, which is the smallest of the DVC Studios.

Most Studios are around 355 sq feet, with OKW being 376 and Jambo House AKL being 316-365.

And compare that to a standard Moderate room of 314 sq feet (340 at Caribbean Beach).

BLT studios are pretty small compared to the other DVC resorts. They definitely went for efficiency when they built that tower. The rooms at OKW are very big compared to everything else in the DVC portfolio and are very nice. They are similar to standard hotel rooms since they have two beds as opposed to the pull out/coffee table sitting arrangement.

We (myself, DH, DD5, DD2) recently stayed at BLT for 2 nights in Oct. 2011, in a "lake view" studio. Here's our take on the room and resort:

1. The rooms are pretty small...but, in all honesty, we really didn't spend that much time in there. There's one queen-sized bed and a double-sized pull-out couch. The bedding was very nice compared to other resorts we've stayed out.

2. Our "lake view" was just that. However, as I looked to the left from our balcony, I could see Magic Kingdom! IMO: I would never use the extra points for "Theme Park view," and if we ever stay there again, we'll try to get "standard view." Staying here you have access to the rooftop, where you can get a panoramic view of the area, and are able to view the MK fireworks!

3. The decor was modern, with some Disney flare. Colors are soothing, almost spa-like.

4. Like all good real estate, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!:sohappy: If you're going to split your time between MK and EP the most, then this resort is probably better than OKW. We loved that we could walk over to MK and not have to contend with busses (especially at closing time). To catch the monorail to EP, you have to walk over to the Contemporary & hop on the monorail to the TTC; at the TTC ,you hop off the mono, and then walk over to the monorail to EP. A little tedious, and a bit exhausting after a long day, but at least you keep moving (and we didn't have to take our sleeping kids out of the stroller). As for transportation to the other parks, you hop the busses at the CT.

5. You have access to both BLT and CT amenities.

6. Like the newer DVC resorts, there's no quick-service restaurant here and to re-fill your mugs, you can either walk down to the pool area (we only saw soda, no coffee) or you walk over to CT to the Contempo Cafe.

Overall, BLT was good for a few nights. I'm glad we split our time between AKV-Jambo house and BLT.

Whatever you decide, remember you're in WDW!

Space will be tight at BLT. I've stayed there with my wife and then 5 year old son. It would be doable though.

Don't forget to look at the other ammenities:

BLT is on the monorail. If you bring a stoller, that will be a big plus.
Everything at BLT is a quick walk, because most of the structure is vertical. You will be riding elevators a lot, though.
From BLT you can walk to the Magic Kingdom. This made leaving after Wishes very easy.

I haven't stayed at OKW, so I can't do a good comparison against that resort.

I have realized that Studios at OKW have 2 beds...at lest thats what floor plan looked like. But other studios at other resorts have a bed and couch bed.

When relying on Disney transportation, I tend to think there is very little difference from resort-to-resort unless you spend an inordinately large amount of time at a single park. If you will spend 75% of your time at the Magic Kingdom, BLT will prove to be a bit more convenient than others. The monorail to Epcot can take just as long as buses or boats from other destinations. That trip involves a wait time on the platform, multiple stops along the way (particularly return trip) and a train switch at the TTC. Lines at the CR and Epcot platforms are not uncommon. Then to all other destinations (two theme parks, two waterparks and DTD), you're taking a bus which is often shared with other resorts. And the somewhat remote nature of the MK resort area makes for some longish bus trips.

Meanwhile OKW may use 100% bus transportation but it is extremely close to Epcot, DHS, Downtown Disney and Typhoon Lagoon.

There are similar trade-offs for every resort. If you "win" via proximity to one or two destinations, you "lose" in relation to several others. For that reason, location / transportation doesn't play a very large role in my own resort choices. We place much greater emphasis on other resort aspects when deciding where to stay.

We've stayed at BLT on two trips now and I the location far outweighs the space. We are a party of 3 as well with our DS who is 9 and we move the table around to make some floor space and do not mind the size of the room at all. It is great to be able to hop on the monorail to the TTC and Epcot and take a walk over to the MK. Having to rely on the buses only for DHS and DAK is wonderful. We always stay in the studio rooms and the only complaint had to do with the sliding bathroom doors that they have since fixed (there was a sliding door on the bathroom that didn't provide much bathroom privacy and it was fixed in the rooms).

My husband and I stay at BLT. We love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is not tiny at all. The recent changes they made to the floor plan have helped a lot. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

We just got back from 9 nights in a lake view studio and LOVED IT. 12 minute walk from our room to MK front gate, getting to Epcot was fun by taking the monorail, and everything was just so convenient. Room size was good enough for us and DD2. We've never stayed at OKW but just having the proximity to MK was well worth it. No more buses to all destinations! I'm imagining that you'll be spending more time at MK with your 3 year old than any of the other parks, so it'll be great for you at BLT. Have a blast!

We recently stayed there and loved it! We did a one bedroom and there was plenty of room for us. We even had our friends come to our room to watch football becuase we had the room to do it. I have stayed in the WL and SS and to me this was the best one I have stayed in so far. I personally think the room in the one bedroom here was much larger then the one bedroom I has stayed in at the WL.
Here are some of our pictures.
