I know it’s a staffing/demand issue, but I also wonder how much of this is beta testing to see which one they will decide to scuttle
If they decided to raze one and build a new one in its place (if that was the plan, which I doubt)... They'd have to seriously work it to make it match the quality of VB and Aquatica (though I prefer the latter). Neither waterpark is at that level. Disney really should be able to support both open at the same time, demand-wise, but that would require a level of investment they're likely uncomfortable with.

Yes
The water parks rarely were both open in the off season even pre-covid. A couple month refurb was the routine even back then. Idk whether they will both be open by the time next summer rolls around. But even if we are going back to normal that won't matter until March at the earliest

It's unfortunate that the water parks are treated as value-added items for a ticket instead of real destinations. There's been a tremendous amount of innovation in the aquatics industry, as evidenced by the competition in Orlando, and both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are hopelessly outdated in that respect. Has Blizzard Beach even received anything new since it opened in 1995?

This one or the other is exhausting
Yup. But for some reason they can only make a single water park at a time work for the spring/summer/fall season.

There's no value in it, and now instead of complementing guest visits, because of the high prices of almost everything, extras like LL add-ons and parties, it competes for guest's cash.

I’ll be curious to see if BB closes again in March when TL reopens or if they finally return to two water parks for summer. They probably want to see if people actually go on the first day of a resort stay. That perk is particularly appealing on split stays.

That perk is ridiculous, because the water park stays open till 5 and it could take up to an hour to get there relying on Disney Transport and the bus transfer. You'd need to get to your Resort and check in prior to noonish to make it worth it to visit.
It is also silly it was announced so long ago, but the perk is not available now. For my Nov. runDisney race.

It’s more appealing in the summer when they stay open until 8 and it’s hot. It could be 60 degrees all week in November. All of December was pretty chilly last year.

TL is only open until 6pm today. I'd say late August in Florida is hot.
It’s not summer travel season, however.

I live in CT. There is regularly a 6 am or 7 am flight that gets us into a theme park by 1 pm. I’d take 5 hours in a water park.

Also, ideal for split stays or if you go to WDW after a cruise.

No real additions, just replacements and small operational upgrades. It’s definitely a little harder to add to the mountain and space is limited around the perimeter, but TL managed to do it. It’s sad to see both parks stagnate the way they have. Unfortunately any real investment is unlikely as long as Disney chooses to only keep each park open roughly half the year.

So tired of this swapping. We’re local passholders but we’ve been to blizzard beach only once since late 2019. It’s usually too cold when it’s open. We went last year on a warmish day in November, but the water was so cold, and it was too cloudy help warm us out of the water, so we only lasted an hour before we left. The kids really miss blizzard beach in the summer.
