Blizzard Beach question

Well I convinced the wife to go to Disney "again" this year but with stipulations. 1. We have to go to Sea World and 2. we must do Blizzard Beach. My question is do you need water shoes for Blizzard Beach or do you walk around barefoot? TIA

I went to Blizzard Beach in 2012 and we didn't have shoes. There are some parts of the concrete were it's hot but then they have sprinklers on foot level that instantly cools and refreshes. The park was very clean. I would just wear shoes if I wanted to go to the toilet because I would never go in to a toilet bare feet. Mild ocd here and control freak!

I would recommend sandals at least, if you don't prefer wearing water shoes all the time. The ground isn't rough per se, but it can get HOT! You'll be running on coals to get from attraction to attraction. We wore flip flops and were able to leave them at a chair nearby and put them on for "longer" treks around the park.

Oh yes. How could I forget to mention bathrooms. I wouldn't do that either! :hungover:

I was just there in April 2014 and used them. I wouldn't go without them. Better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them. The lockers are close to the wave pool so if you are wearing them and decide you don't need them, it's a quick trip to stash them in the lockers. A couple other things:

1. You aren't allowed to wear them if you want to go down Summit Plummet. I would guess they might not be allowed on some of the other slides either, like Slush Gusher. Check and leave them by the pool or in the lockers before you make the trek all the way up the mountain.

2. The wave pool has a very rough bottom. My niece scraped her knee badly enough to need a band-aid. Water shoes wouldn't have helped, but it shows how rough the bottom of the pool is.

Have a great time!

I've been a few times and never wear sandals around the park. Of course, if I do have to go to the bathroom, I grab mine out of the locker.

You can do either one. I always go barefoot, but I know some people aren't comfortable with that. Sometimes the ground can get hot (though they spray it in the water areas). Always at least bring a pair of sandals to wear when you go get food and walk in and out of the park

Depends on how tough your feet are. If you have sensitive feet, wear them. If you live near the beach like I do and are used to walking barefoot on hot surfaces, go without. I never wear shoes at blizzard beach unless I go to the bathroom.

It's a bit of a catch 22, water shoes are great for the boiling hot concrete when walking to the slides, but usually you can't wear them on the rides. They may let you wear them on the smaller rides, I can't remember.
Personally I would just wear sandals for when you go for lunch/toilet etc.

We just did Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon last month.
You're really going to want water shoes.

Oh, and while we found Typhoon Lagoon to be way more impressive than Blizzard Beach, if you've never seen Blizzard Beach, go for it.
Just don't skimp on the sun screen or recreational alcohol. Both will enhance your enjoyment considerably.

!

Actually it was the trek and waiting for Slush Gusher and Summit Plummet where I really wish I still had my water shoes on. Those water sprayers that are supposed to cool down the concrete are few and far between, sadly.
If I remember correctly, the lifeguards will simply have you remove your water shoes prior to sliding and hold them in your hands as you cross your arms.
That's definitely what we did the next day at Humonga Kowabunga.

They let us all keep our water shoes on for Slush n Gusher. I would recommend them if you are going in August.

Without something on your feet.. you will be seeking out wet pavement and the sprinklers they use :) You are very aware of dry/hot pavement. That said, it is manageable, but is something you work around. Some throw-away shoes/sandals wouldn't hurt :)
