Blake Shelton will host a special live tonight from Oklahoma City, with follow Okies Vince Gill, Reba McInyre, and others, to help raise money for the Oklahoma tornado relief efforts of the American Red Cross. Should be a good show, and raise a lot of money along the way.
I know that it is easy for some to be cynical about these star-fests that have now become one predictable response to national disasters, but I do know that they also do a lot of good by raising awareness and paving the way for people to help and give. I remember the one after 9-11 that was on most networks, and that in it the stars were, for once, not identified with any name on the screen. Tom Hanks and many others were on it. I know in this case that Blake Shelton probably leveraged his star status these days wih NBC to get it done, but he did!
Anyhow, I am glad that they are doing it, and I hope it is successful.
Anyone here plan to watch? (Not sure if it will be seen outside the US, though.)
I especially like Vince Gill. He is always great, and usually puts real emotion into his performance. (He did a great job with Patty Loveless on "Go Rest High on That Mountain" at the George Jones Memorial.)
The show starts at 9 Eastern Time (8 Central).
