I rode SM twice recently and noticed both times that this Hidden Mickey has been missing! Why would it be gone? Would it have anything to do with the recent railroad renovation?

Last year I wanted to show it to my cousin. I told him it is the most fascinating hidden mickey out there with Mickey just lying on his back in the clouds. Then I didn't see it and I looked nuts! I have no idea why they would remove it. Or alter it at all. This is just my best guess, but there has got to be some bleeding heart among the Disney crew that found it offensive in some way. That's my only guess, 20 years ago you'd have laughed at that, but right now that is honestly the best guess I can think of with that.

Well it’s an industry standard to not have hidden mickeys so it’s been budget cut.
Come to think of it, are there even any hidden mickeys in Pandora?

I could see them wanting to move away from doing them, as people end up more concerned about them than the storytelling details.

Curious... I don't see it as much more then a stretch of the imagination. I never would have noticed it because it is way to distorted. It might classify as a nearly invisible Mickey though. To me it is no more a hidden Mickey then the paddle wheel shield that has two much more distinct, albeit distorted, hidden Mickey's.

If we really wanted to lose our minds we might recognize the "bird???" in the spotlight, on the top right casting a shadow that looks very similar to Oswald Rabbit.

Yes there is. In the most recent Celebrations magazine, July/August issue in the feature article, Hidden Mickeys in AK, there are 3 listed in FoP.
