Big Thunder Interacitve Waiting Area

So I was on vacation at the world yesterday and I remembered how BTM has possibly the worst line to wait on other than PP. So as i was waiting i was thinking of what could be done. Here is what I have, its not a lot so i need help on more ideas...

So the two things i have both take place by the opening "window" areas that face the mountain. The "window" area on the right side facing the ride i thought they could add something similar to the SM line. Have a game. Now here you can have a shooting arcade like thing. You have a pistol and u shoot at different targets on the mountain and such and they trigger different effects.

Second the left side of the line facing the ride by the "window" area. There is the water area of the ride right at the end. Here is where you can get some of the riders a little wet. Along the window edge there would be the TNT dynamite boxes. Like the ones that you push down the lever and it would make something explode. Well here guests push down on the levers and bursts of water explode all around the track. I know this would just entertain a small portion of the guests waiting but its a start! GIVE ME MORE IDEAS!!!!!

:sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

THANKS!!!!

I like your ideas! :) The exploding TNT in the water sounds very fun!

Perhaps there could be a board where miners have pinned up papers and wrote with chalk what mines are filled with gold.. Except there are more announcements and warnings like: "Cave in at shaft 14" and "Engine no. 2 Gone Wild" than helpful hints on where the gold is.

Does your Splash have Proff. Barnaby Owl? (The ride was closed when I went.) If not, I was thinking maybe there could be an owl perched somewhere in the queue that would move and hoot. Maybe it could speak a little, like a parrot speaks, repeating words like "curse", "mountain", "thunder", "wild", and other stuff like that. It could be a different bird if Splash has Barnaby..Maybe an eagle or a hawk?

Perhaps every ten minutes a fake earthquake would happen. Things sitting around and on the walls could rattle, the music would stop, and a sound of thunder would be heard.

None of these are interactive like your ideas are. These would just make the line more interesting.

^Thanks :)

I think that the games could work. I don't see the pistol shooting game interfering with the experience too much. I'm curious to your reasons why games wouldn't be very good for BTMRR.

^ Ah. It is rather hard to explain opinions. :)

haha ;)

I do agree with his opinion however, If you happen to look in the direction of the queue and a bunch of people from the line were shooting at you with plastic guns, that would kinda ruin the experience for me. BTMR isn't really about wild-west cowboys as much as a runaway mine train. the two themes clash.

I see your point. Now I agree. Guns probably wouldn't work so well. I think the TNT and the owl and the other things could still work though.

Any other ideas?

I like the tnt idea but not with water shooting up. usually when you think mine shaft, pools of water are not really a thing you would want to relate them too. You know the whole drowning and mine shaft collapsing thing lol. the Owl sounds like a cool idea but maybe replace it with another animal, they already have owl at the Winnie the pooh ride and Barnaby owl kind of has connections to splash mountain already. Maybe a kind of cartoony looking Prairie dog would be cool.

I may be completely off here, I don't know the layout of the queue or attraction too well, but isn't Tumbleweed supposed to be flooded? If so, what if there was a mine near the queue that had also been flooded? Yes, it probably isn't perfect, but it works on Grizzly River Run, and thats an old mine/logging place that people raft down.

So WDW's Splash Mountain has a Barnaby Owl. I was wondering about that. Like I said before, since there's a Barnaby Owl, the bird in the queue could be like a hawk or something. I don't think a cartoony prairie dog would work because there are cartoony weasels in Splash, and Big Thunder is a more realistic ride, but I don't know for sure.

Does the queue ever extend beyond the defined line there? At DL, it does extend on busy days toward the Mexican restaurant. If so, why don't we, in the queue have a little area of it go under ground or into a cave and there could be cave drawings of the mountain and the thunderbird over it to show that the mountain is protected by the spirit of the creature. Here's a picture of what the bird I think looks like from Disneyland Paris. The pictures from the site Ravenswood-manor.com

Again, I don't know the layout of the queue very well, so if this is impossible, I apologize.

From what I recall, there are no water features that could really sustain this near a queue to begin with and I think any attempt to create one could mess with structural or sight lines. they already had the gyser watter feature but it was turned off indefinitely because it consumed too much water and was not very eco or $ friendly so I think that squashes the "wet dream" so to speak :p.

I agree the talking hawk could work no qualms there :)

The que never leaves the main entrance, at least I've never seen it happen :|. there are lots and lots of switchbacks inside under the roof so no need for the cave scene, but great idea!

^ Thanks! :) So I guess no water and no caves. I happen to be more familiar with the DL version, which has a pond, and exits out through a rock tunnel.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "the talking hawk could work no qualms there"? I'm not sure what you mean. Don't think it's your fault though. It's not :)

Gee, I'm not much help on this thread from my lack of knowledge!

lol you talked about a hawk instead of barnaby owl and I said it was a good idea I agree and have no problem with it :p

^ What do you suggest to make it less terrible?

A new idea. I don't know for sure, but I think the queue at WDW can have this. Oh and if they already have this, sorry. I just know for sure that this plays in DL.

I've picked up that in the queue for Splash Mountain at WDW, there's a shadow of Brer Frog talking to some young ones about Brer Rabbit?
Then what if in the queue for BTMRR, there would a window where guests could see shadows of miners dancing, laughing, and talking similar to this:

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad area loop 1
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad area loop 2

Would that work?
