Big DL News

Got a few news updates for everyone!

First, and biggest - Disneyland Park will be CLOSED on May 4, 2005, in preparation for the 50th celebration! DCA will remain open, though, to accomodate anyone who visits the resort that day. There's a warning about this going out with AP renewals as well as Disney Travel reservations.

Second, there's a rumor going around that Believe may not be sticking around for the whole summer. The details are fuzzy, but apparently people who have called Guest Relations and asked about it are being told that it will not be running for much of the summer. So locals, get your Believe fixes in early this summer, just in case...

Third, three long refurbs are coming up! The Enchanted Tiki Room, the Plaza Pavilion, and Aladdin's Oasis will all be closed from July 30, 2004 to March 12, 2005. This is the big Tiki room refurb that Matt Ouimet talked about. As to the fate of the Plaza Pavilion and Aladdin's Oasis, one can only guess. Looks like I need to get my Aladdin Storytelling fix in, big time, between now and then! At least I'll still have the show at DCA.

I will be quite put out if they cancel Believe. This can be a really boring summer thru winter for DL.

-construction Walt (maybe close Lincoln during?)

-refurn Aladdin Oasis

Then of course all the other normal rehabs/refurbs like HM Holiday, IaSW holiday and other paiting like what has been done to MSUSA.

Yep - this can be a real ugly year for DL.

UPDATE: someone over at MouseInfo posted that Believe's last showing will be THIS weekend. I'm gonna talk to Guest Relations whn I go tomorrow and try and get the whole story. Supposedly it's being replaced with an as-yet-unnamed show for the rest of the summer, but it sounds like bets are on the old Fantasy in the Sky making a return.

I'll be going the park Sunday and perhaps Saturday after work too...

Another Believe update here:

I called Guest Relations this morning, and asked about the final showinig of Believe. The guy who answered said, "Oh, we have a new show starting soon, let me check on the date for you." So he put me on hold, then came back a couple minutes later and said, "Actually, Believe doesn't look like it's leaving any time soon." Huh?? That didn't mesh with what I'd read. Called again later and spoke to someone else, the last shwinig IS this weekend, and the new show premieres June 5.

According to a thread on MouseInfo, the new show is supposed to be similar to Believe, but with a new soundtrack, and no pyro on the castle (because of the refurb). Someone said it's called "Imagine!" Which almost sounds like a joke to me because of Fantasmic, so I'm taking all this with a grain of salt for now...

Looks like I'll have to get that "Hellfire" segment photo this weekend...

OK, that change makes some sense. Can't have the Castle stuff while it is being refurb'd. I was so tired of hearing people whine that it was the 'neighbors' complaining.

Hmm, looks like I need to go Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights to catch the last showings of Believe.

Okay, I stopped at City Hall this morning and asked, and the CM seemed to genuinely have no clue what I was talking about. Ditto when I asked at guest relations on the DCA side. Gah!
