Best way to get to MK/AK from the Dolphin

Hi - we booked the Dolphin for next January. What are the best ways to get to MK and AK? I know they offer shuttles, but I thought I read something about them dropping off somewhere else and that we'd need to allow extra time? Would it be better to walk to the Boardwalk and catch their bus? Is that doable? (There will be 4 of us and my mom will be in a scooter, if that matters.) Walking is no issue for us and she can scoot. We'd prefer using the bus system over Uber or Lyft. Any other issues we might need to be aware of (with the scooter and being at a non-Disney resort)?

A comfortable water taxi offers access from the Disney resorts’ dock, running approximately every 20 – 25 minutes to and from Epcot® and Disney’s Hollywood Studios™. Or you can take a leisurely stroll along a series of walkways that will also lead you to the entrance of these two theme parks.

Shuttle buses arrive at the main entrance of the each hotel approximately every 20 – 25 minutes to transport guests to Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, Disney Springs® area and Magic Kingdom® Park. Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom® Park will be dropped off at Disney’s Ticket and Transportation Center.

I'd only worry about going to the MK, I'd go to the Boardwalk or YC/BC then and get their bus to MK

Thank you! Sorry if this is a dumb question, but where exactly is the TTC? (I feel ashamed I do not know that lol.) I think that's where my confusion came from. Either way, I think we will walk to the Boardwalk to catch their bus on MK day.

The TTC is basically the MK Parking Lot. From there, you need to either take the monorail or ferry over to the MK entrance.

Ohhh! I guess I wasn't familiar with it because we've never driven and have always been dropped off by the buses. Thank you. I should have known that and I felt silly asking lol.

This shows the monorail path, which includes a stop at the TTC.

If a bus takes you to the TTC, you need to take the monorail or ferry to the MK entrance, as JaxFLBear said.

If you take a bus directly to the MK, it will drop you at the MK bus stops just outside the MK entrance.

Thanks, that does sound like a hassle! I will plan to walk to the Boardwalk and catch their bus.

We stayed at the Dolphin last August, and as others mentioned, the buses directly from the Dolphin will only take you to the TTC, not directly to MK. (They used to go directly to the MK, so you'll see that mentioned if you Google around and read older posts, but Disney stopped letting Swan/Dolphin buses bypass the TTC in October 2020.) Whenever we were MK-bound, we walked to Boardwalk or Beach Club (it was about the same distance either way, given our room location) and took a bus. They seemed to come so frequently to those resorts, that I don't think we ever waited more than 10 minutes, or boarded a bus that was more than half full. Taking the Boardwalk bus also had the added bonus that when the outdoor snack and drink kiosks were open, we could grab a pretzel or a fun beverage as we passed through!

We did take the Dolphin bus to and from AK. The wait was longer than it would have been for a Disney bus (probably about 20 minutes), but then again, we weren't having to walk the extra few minutes to/from Boardwalk or Beach Club, so time-wise, I think it was a wash.

Sounds great, thank you! How did you like the Dolphin? We are staying there because my husband is using his Mariott Bonvoy points. They (Swan and Dolphin) look pretty 90's from the outside, but I've heard good things about them and the rooms themselves look nice. And you sure can't beat the location!

Our stay was overwhelmingly positive, although not perfect. Here were the highlights:

PROS:
- The price. With a AAA discount, we stayed in a Premium Family Suite for hundreds less than the price of Disney's cheapest Deluxe standard room. While early park entry and extra evening hours were not in play when we visited, obviously those add a lot of value as well.
- The location. Walking distance to two parks, plus numerous other resorts and restaurants and even Fantasia Gardens? Can't beat it. The boats were nice too, but they did shut down whenever there was a storm, and although they're supposed to run "back-up buses" in those circumstances, nobody working at the hotel seemed to know when or how that was supposed to occur.
- Bottled water! Free in the room, with more available on request. With Disney charging $3.50 per bottle in the parks, this was huge. Plus, the in-room complimentary coffee was Starbucks.
- The grotto pool complex was gorgeous, and offered plenty of room for everybody (no hunting endlessly to find an unoccupied lounge chair or hot tub).
- The app. You can text the front desk right from the Marriott app, to request extra blankets, water, etc. We had to do this a couple of times, and found the staff to be very responsive. In fact, everybody who we encountered, from the front desk and bell services, to housekeeping and restaurant staff, was flawlessly professional and tried to be helpful.

CONS:
- Room layout. While the website says rooms may "differ" from how they're pictured, our suite and bathroom were both missing major amenities that negatively impacted our stay, to the point where the website pictures were false advertising as far as I was concerned. Our bathroom, which was shown on the website as a split design with 2 sinks, was a single room with 1 sink and NO HANGING/CLOSET SPACE, and a credenza/breakfast bar that was supposed to have been in the family room was completely missing. This made our mornings (with 2 adults, 1 teen girl and 1 teen boy trying to get ready and make breakfast at the same time) unnecessarily chaotic, and our room unnecessarily disorganized, to the point where I'd never choose that room category again out of fear of getting that particular room. To add insult to injury, our "view" was completely obscured by dirty roofs and air conditioning units from a taller section of the building. Obviously, your mileage may vary, and hopefully our experience wasn't the norm.
- Double beds. DH and DS are both about 6' tall, so the double beds were a little bit cramped for them (although we otherwise found the beds very comfortable).

NEUTRAL:
- Theming. For me, the 90s-idea-of-modern theming was overly bland and cold. However, it's all a matter of personal taste. I will say that everything in our room was in good working order and spotlessly clean, and the furniture was comfortable and new-looking.

OK that doesn't sound too bad. I'm not crazy about double beds since I'm used to a king, but other than that... we'll be myself, husband, mom, and 12 year old nephew. We're not used to sharing a room so it may feel cramped but I guess we'll deal with it. Even with our kids, they usually shared amongst themselves, but this trip is more for my mom and nephew so we wanted to keep costs low for them.

As for the theming, I can remember passing by those hotels in the boats years ago. I've never been fond of the outside decor - the pink and teal looks very 1990's to me lol. But, I'm also not one who likes the over-the-top Disney flair either like at Art of Animation. All that won't matter though. I'll be so excited to be there and so close to Epcot and HS! We are excited to (hopefully) ride Guardians and my nephew is a total Star Wars nut, so we are of course excited to show him Galaxy's Edge. I can't believe I finally got them to agree to go after all these years!

To echol what the Weather Lady said, (we were there last June). the bus to AK does drop you off in the parking lot. It's a bit of a hike to the entrance. MK bus drops you off at TTC. There is NO bus to DS or Epcot. And the storm stops both the boat and the Skyliner. We had to walk to Yacht Club to get a bus, which also took a long time because those resorts did not have bus service to Epcot or the Studios (our intended destination..
The other main thing was the restaurants were on a rotating days closed of operation and we got stuck with no good lunch option because we came back to the hotel for grandkids naps.
Hopefully the hiring has improved restaurant hours of operation by now.
As for the hotel itself, very nice except for the double beds.

Thanks, my mom will be in a scooter (recent lung surgery), but the rest of us should be fine for walking. We were planning to walk to Epcot and HS anyway.

I hope all the restaurants will be open by then. We plan to eat lunch on our arrival day at The Fountain and breakfast on departure day at Garden Grove, which I just looked and that one appears to be closed right now. I didn't notice that before. We went in February 2021 and lots of places were closed, but that was of course due to the pandemic. I think now it's all the staff shortages. I remember the Peter Pan line was routed through Columbia Harbour House and it was really weird walking through the empty restaurant.

Stayed at the Dolphin in May. We always walked to Boardwalk to get to MK. You might be better off going to Yacht or Beach Club though with the scooter. From the Boardwalk you’ll have to go inside and take elevator to lobby level. There’s a nice little quick pick up place called Fuel on lobby level. Breakfast sandwiches aren’t great but there’s coffee, yogurt, and a few pastries. The drink fountain is free refills for the day so we would fill up our Hydroflasks before heading out in the morning and refill when we came back for pool break and one more before going back out for the night. Bus to AK drops off/picks up in the parking lot but it’s not much farther than the actual bus stops. If you’re planning on going to DS the Dolphin bus drops off behind CirqueDeSolei building so a little farther away. We never went to DS from hotel. We would do half day at AK and take the bus to Saratoga Springs and walk. It’s a nice, quiet relaxing walk. We used Disney bus to Yacht club and walked back. Rooms are nothing special. Bathrooms are on the small side unless you are getting a handicap one. Pool is great.
