If your request is a room type (e.g. preferred, water view, king bed, etc.) you need to book that kind of room. If you book a standard room the chance of you getting a bungalow room because you request it is near zero. (yes, guests actually do stuff like that)
Make your requests general in nature. (e.g. ground floor, near stairs, etc.) You can request a specific room number but the CM assigning the rooms will often have no idea why you want that specific room if it is not available. They might think you want room 1201 because it is near an elevator but you really wanted it because it was away from the pool.
It also does not hurt if you arrive early and let the CM checking you in that you don't mind waiting for a room that matches your requests.
I always call the reservation center and have a CM add the requests to the reservation. Is there an email or a fax that I can submit a request to ahead of time?
