Very curious as to when the best time is to go on KS, to see animals? The last time we went around 2pm and we thought it was fine, but we overheard people saying it was better to go first thing in the morning. Does anyone know of a peak-time for animal gazing?:lookaroun :lookaroun

I've always heard from CMs that park opening is the best time, and from experience, it seems to be true.

I remember back when Animal Kingdom first opened, they would open the park at 7:00am daily. We did Kilimanjaro Safaris first thing one morning about 7:10, and man, tons of animals were out. It's a shame they don't open this park as early anymore.

During summer when it's especially hot, it is best to go first thing in the mornings. The animals move around more when cooler and you can usually see more movement, especially the lions.

During June, I went 3 times during early entry and then once after regular park opening. I saw more movement and animals on my first trip and gradually less and less. My last trip, the lions weren't even visable.

Well I've never been early in the morning.....maybe I should one day...anyways, I have been real late like an hour to an hour and half before the park closes....and we've gotten real close to animals...including giraffes and real real close to RHINOS.....great photo shots I must add...

There isn't alot of wait towards the end of the day and the animals are out and about....

KS is always the first thing I do when the park opens. I enjoy the ride every time I go on, but I agree the best is in the morning. You can usually see the lions then, and the one time I have seen a cheetah on the ride was early in the morning.

I've been on later in the day and you can see giraffes and rhinos, but it's harder to see the cheetahs and lions. I also saw fewer hippos out of the water and crocs.

I've had to wait for 5 minutes before waiting on the white rhinos to cross the path as well as having to wait on giraffes when going first thing in the morning.

Actually, a really good time to go is when it is raining. Believe it or not. We've been on it a few times when it is raining and have seen a lot of animals. Morning time is a pretty good time too.

We have always found that the best time to see lots of animals is as soon as the park opens because anytime after that (unless it rains!) it is too hot for them!!!

*** ONLY 11 DAYS TO GO *** I CANNOT WAIT ANYMORE...

Have a fantasmic day everyone!

Like everyone else said, mornings are the best.

We did the special AKL tour last year that happens first thing in the morning before the park opens.

Now the truck stops and the guide talks abouts stuff, so the trip takes over 45 mins, but we got to see every single type of animal except one. It was some kind of antelope, I can't remember anymore.

The point is, we never saw that many animals, even when we got on first thing in the morning. And with Main Street USA's statement, I suspect that with his and my very early morning experiances...the earlier the better.

BTW, we are doing the AKL Sunrise Saffari again this year...I can't wait! :sohappy:

Have fun!

I agree that early morning is probably the best time to do it. Actually, anytime that it's cooler outside is a good time to do it, either in the morning, in the evening before closing, and yes, in the rain. This is primarlily for the Summer when it's pretty humid though. I know I've been on it in December and the animals were just as active at noon then as they are at 9am in the Summer becuase it was cooler. Same goes for Pangani Forest and Maharajah Jungle Treck as well.

Yes, I agree. We did the Wild by Design tour last year as well, and part of that involved us walking through the Maharajah Jungle Treck, before that part of the park was open to the public.

I never saw the Tigers more active than that. They are all usally on their backs sleeping by the time we do Maharajah later in the morning/early afternoon.

It was a treet to see all of them up and around. They were just feed. Most were munch down on bloody bones. :slurp: It was cool.

I wish AK opened at say 6:00 am, that would be better. (Sorry all you AK CMs, I know that a tad early. :animwink: )
