High Tea Highlights
My husband knows of my affinity for ALL things British so we have travelled up and down the East Coast to have tea in many British Style tea houses. I was even lucky enough to take High Tea in London at the Savoy which was excellent. Well, I digress... back to Disney! We did take the high tea at the Grand Floridian on our recent honeymoon. It was okay, a bit higher on price side (even though MOST high teas at tea houses ARE a bit pricier it was higher than most all we have encountered). However, I was a tad disappointed in:
Usually when you get the "high tea" they bring you a 3-tiered glass serving tray with an assortment of pastries and finger sandwiches and they refill it upon request, no charge.
At the Grand Floridian, though, we got served individual portions (even smaller than most tea houses) on tiny plates. They allowed ONE pastry per person. Why??? Usually you are allowed several, especially given the postage-stamp size pieces. They did have chocolate covered strawberries, but ran out when I requested a piece as my ONE ALLOWED pastry choice.
Also, usually the waitress or waiter pours your tea for you. Not at the GF - you are on your own. They bring the tea pot to your table, but then go away and leave you to your own devices. If you are unsure about how to serve the tea; you feel a bit adrift.
So overall I think we enjoyed the tea experience but only because we happen to love ALL afternoon high teas we sample. However, the Disney version is quite high priced, very tiny portions (we had to go out to lunch after the high tea, which is unheard of normally we are stuffed), and they don't pour for you or give you much insight into the experience.
Dress code varies - same as the entire GF - you have folks in exquisite holiday fashions (dresses, sports coats, etc.) alongside folks in sandals and backpacks and torn t-shirts.
