Best Place in UK to buy your Dollars?

I’m sure I saw in a past thread where there was a discussion about the best place to buy Dollars / Travellers Cheques, with one site in particular being singled out as giving the best rates. Try as I might, I cannot find the thread.

So, to all my fellow UK residents – Who do you think gives the most Bucks per Quid?

Unable to supply the name you want from the other threads, however Thomas Cook have had our business in the past.
Things to be aware of - Travel agents and banks can supply cash & travellers cheques PLUS they all appear to offer the same rates. There may be discrepencies between Minimum Charges or 1% or 0% commission all of which alter the rate that the $ is being offered at.
Check teletext for the official tourist rates then shop around - the amount of $ & TC that we Brits take to the US, you should find that a decent establishment will "negotiate" to make sure they get your business

WE WENT TO WDW FOR THE NEW YEAR AND FOUND THE BEST PLACE TO PURCHASE US DOLLARS, WAS TRAVELEX.CO.UK, IT GAVE THE BEST RATE, ABOUT 5-10 CENTS HIGHER THAN ANYWHERE ELSE, NO COMMISION RATES, AS YOU WERE PURCHASING OVER THE NET,( DO NOT WORRY, VERY SAFE SITE), YOU DONT EVEN PAY FOR THE CURRENCY UNTILL YOU PICK UP, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS CHOOSE YOUR PLACE OF COLLECTION, IE, WHICH AIRPORT YOU ARE DEPARTING FROM, YOU CAN ALSO PURCHASE A BUY BACK ITEM. WHERE THEY WILL BUY BACK CURRENCY AT THE RATE YOU PURCASED AT, WHICH MEANS YOU GET MORE POUNDS BACK IN THE UK THAN YOU DO IN USA. In the past I did not buy that much in the way of Dollars as I put everything on the Visa card - which seemed to give the best rate.

BUT - the rate at the moment is quite good, though it slipped a little in the last few days, so I'm pondering whether to stock up now. It's eight weeks before I'm there. :sohappy:
