Planning a trip to Disneyland Resort and looking for recommendations on a good value hotel in walking distance to Disneyland for summer 2023.

Thanks.

I probably should have also asked your price range as well.

I've stayed at the King's Inn on Katella before and it was under $100/night and about an 8-10 minute walk. I found the rooms to be clean and comparable to anything across the street from the parks.

There are a few decent priced hotels at Ball/Disneyland Dr. and you can walk to the Mickey & Friends parking tram in about a 10 minute time. There are also hotels flanking the north and west entrance to the Toy Story parking lot if you want to take advantage of the free bus ride from that lot which would extend your radius a bit more.

Younger members of the family used to stay at the Courtyard by Marriott on Harbor. It's new, has a big pool water slide area, and is the typical snazzy corporate Marriott standard. My nephew's wives reported they could always get a decent Lemon Drop or a salad in the lobby bar, and the Mimi's Cafe across the parking lot is also a nice place for a meal, or there's always McDonald's or Panera Bread on the other side of the parking lot. It's a 10 minute walk from the Disneyland turnstiles.

To be fair to Disney, the King's Inn on Katella has rooms that are almost comparable to the Paradise Pier Hotel.

Factor in the difference in cost, and the fact the King's Inn is actually a faster/closer walk to the main entrances of the two parks than the Paradise Pier Hotel, and it's kind of fascinating.

King's Inn Double Queen Room: $161 Per Night on Expedia for a 3-night stay this weekend.

Paradise Pier Hotel Double Queen Room: $524 Per Night on Expedia for a 3-night stay this weekend.

For me, even if I wouldn't pay the prices, the overall wood aesthetic of the PPH room works better and is more appealing.

You are immersed in magic!
I don't know about being immersed in anything. I'm just saying personally I find that aesthetic more appealing than the room you showed from King's Inn. So if I'm going to choose a room and they both cost the same I'd pick the PPH room every time.

They don't cost the same. It's not even close.

Would you pay an extra $363 per night for the PPH room "aesthetic" and a longer walk to the parks?

That's the question.

I've already answered this in my original response, I wouldn't pay those prices. And of course they don't cost the same, this is Disney after all. So its guaranteed that any Disney hotel room will cost more than a non-Disney equivalent hotel room especially in Anaheim.

I've just been speaking about the look and aesthetic of each room and what I would choose when you remove price.

Here’s the hotels my family has stayed in for the last 6 trips. I’d rank our stays from worst to last as follows:

5: Del Sol Inn - Cheapest and dirtiest feel, tucked way back in behind the IHOP and the pool was right in front of our room.

4: Paradise Pier - Embarrassing that this is a Disney property hotel. Felt like a cheap old hotel, the walk to the front gate is way further than Harbor Blvd hotels especially with 3 young kids. For the value, I’d almost rank it last but the magic morning for both parks eeks it over Del Sol.

3: Holiday Inn Express - It was exactly what I expect from a Holiday Inn, nothing special but clean and affordable. Distance to the front gate was about the same as Paradise Pier but a fraction of the cost.

2: Fairfield - Great rates, 3rd floor has (maybe not anymore) Pizza Hut and a little store, great view of the fireworks from our room, short walk to the park and there’s a Panera Bread and McDonald’s right out front.

1: Tropicana - Location and even better rates. Rooms were clean and the conjoining rooms were a plus for our group. Right across the street from the park entrance makes taking a break during the day easy. Had a great view for the fireworks and a little store and coffee shop in the attached store out front.

Obviously we value affordability and the shortest distance to the park. Tropicana and Fairfield do that for us. The Fairfield has a bit nicer pool but the little bit of closer distance back to the hotel at midnight on day 4 gives the Tropicana the edge for me.

The second week of March, we got a room at Desert Inn and Suites. About 250 a night for 4 nights but it had 3 beds and being across the street is marvelous.

Stayed at the same place last October for 3 nights for about the same price. It was the suite with a living area (with hide-a-bed) and bedroom. Went with my parents and since my dad snores we needed separation lol.

Being across the street is definitely worth it. We could easily go back in the afternoons and rest for an hour or two.
