This is our first trip to WDW...children are 5&7...we debated between WL, AKL and Poly but decided to spend the extra and stay at the Poly.. (my husband mostly wants to be on the water and ease of transportation and I wanted Poly because the perception is that it is the "best" and I have a one and done mentality when it comes to WDW)..That being said, we are booked 6 nights standard view. Which longhouse would you suggest?

We've only stayed with a standard view and have been in Rarotonga. For us, it was about the convenience the resort as a whole gives its guests, but I didn't upgrade the view because I knew we wouldn't be there to enjoy it much. I liked our location because we were right next to the GCH and a super quick walk to the bus stop. It was also a pretty good spot to pick up the walkway to the TTC.

Make sure you're aware of which longhouses are now dedicated to DVC studios (Moorea, Pago Pago, Tokelau).

I can't offer an opinion on the non-DVC longhouses, but I can say that if the view is important to you (and especially if it's more important to you than location), check out the room finder tool on touringplans.com, which can show you what you'll see when you look out the window.

FWIW, we requested a longhouse close to the Great Ceremonial House when we went, and ended up a couple of longhouses over. At first I was disappointed, but the difference in walking time was only about 2 minutes, and we had such a spectacular, tranquil view outside our balcony that we ended up being really happy with where we were.

Whenever we have went with the standard view we have always been placed in Rarotonga. Like Chicki said it Is really central to everything. There are better views at other longhouses but have only been placed there when we selected water or theme park view. We have always been luck enough to be on the quiet pool side of Rarotonga and not the side facing the bus stop/parking lot so the view has never been all that bad. The convenience of being so close to the GCH, both pools, bus stop, monorail, restaurants, and the dole whip stand, trumps the better views in my book. That thought may be different if I were paying that much and my view was an asphalt jungle!

Half of Tuvalu standard view looks at the side of the Fiji longhouse so you might want to avoid that. The other Tuvalu standard views are nice.

We are partial to the club levellonghouse (Hawaii) quiet with great amenities and you can have a great view of the castle.

We stayed in Samoa and loved it! It is close to the main building and has a pool on both sides. We booked it again but received a free upgrade to Hawaii with Club service (which we loved)!

Fiji is my personal fav. Before the DVC conversions, Tokelau (formerly Oahu) was my favorite longhouse. I have yet to stay in Rarotonga (Maui), but I imagine the north facing rooms in that building would be great, too.

Compare the price of the club level with no view to the lagoon view. If the difference is not significant, take the club level. It has a great viewing area for the lagoon, fireworks, and water parade, with all of the club level offerings at the same time. It is still difficult to ever justify the additional cost of the club level if you are counting dollars, but this may make the splurge a bit more palatable. I also like the location of that building.
