I really want to buy a Walt Disney World book but i dont know which one to get. Is the "Hidden Mickeys" book a good book to read?

Depends what you want from the book!

Best guide for toruing IMHO is The Unnoficial Guide.

For wonderful photographs - "One Day At Disney", this also covers Disneyland, Paris and Toky.

"Since the World Began" is a nice souvenir type book.

For some serious heavy psychological reading "Vinyl Leaves. Walt Disney World and America" by Stephen M Fjellman.

There are also some good Imagineer, degisning the themeparks and architecture books.

I too would have to strongly recommend the 2005 Unofficial Guide. It is loaded with 800 pages of everything you could want to know about WDW!

Another good read is a book by Michael Eisner called: Be Our Guest. The book looks inside the "secrets" behind Disney's world-renown Customer Service System and gives a lot of insite on Walt's origional vision of the company. I must say that Eisner did a fantastic job with this book and I read it in a matter of about 2 days, I just couldn't put it down!!!!!

I have the Hidden Mickey's book and it's not really something you just read - its more of a scavenger hunt. Last trip it was just hubby and I with 2 kids so our hands were full and we weren't able to do much searching. But next week it will be 5 adults with my 2 kids so I am looking forward to getting more use out of the book.

I also bought the Unofficial Guide and that was great to read.

The only "novel" I've read related to Disney is "Walt Disney's World" which is a biography of Walt. I wrote a paper on him in 10th grade (8 years ago!). It was a great book, but it's probably old fashioned by now.

I wasn't sure if "Hidden Mickeys" were about the actual hidden mickeys in the parks or secrets about the park.

Thanks!!

I'd recommend the Unofficial Guide, but I'm biased. :animwink:

Steve Barrett's Hidden Mickeys book is indeed a good read, as is Lou Mongello's Walt Disney World Trivia Book. If you haven't seen John Hench's "Designing Disney" book, that's also a good one. Lots of great art.

The "Hidden Mickeys" book I wouldn't recommend. You'll be ridiculed by security as holding a "Disney for Dummies" book, as we were last year. :(

As was stated, it's more of a scavenger hunt book for Mickey's. Since we're always on the lookout for them, so the book is more of a compliment to our search, but, honestly, we haven't opened it in a long time.

Birnbaum's is good, and the Unofficial Guide has a whole lot more stuff than Birnbaum's would dare include, like *daily* historic crowd levels. Can't have anyone but die-hards going on those days, you know, because the "regular" guests are willing to pay much more $$$ for the busier times. ;) Either book would be a good pickup.

Here's a book "Married to the Mouse" that's a little different than the other vacation planning and cutsey art books. This book doesn't exactly paint Disney in a good light, but it does show how well organized of a company it is. This book is a behind the scenes of the big business that is Disney.
I was thinking of getting Married to the Mouse. Can anyone tell me if its good or not and wether its worth it. :veryconfu

I have bought Birnbaum's Official Guide every year since 1994...even when I'm not going... :lookaroun I like the Unofficial Guide as well. It's humourous.

My favorite Disney books are "Be Our Guest" and "The Little Big Book of Disney." :)

A good one for history, fun facts and trivia is
"The Walt Disney World Trivia Book: Secrets, History & Fun Facts Behind the Magic"

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1887140492/102-4140534-9916145?v=glance

For vacation planning:
Unofficial Guide
PassPorter - great planning pages too.

The Walt Disney World Trivia Book is an excellent book and the author is an amazing guy. He is a member of this site (AKQJ10) and is also in charge of his website: http://www.disneyworldtrivia.com/ He also has a forum board on his site. Don't buy his book from Amazon though, buy it from him on his site and he will personally sign it with a message to you as well.

As for me, I have probably almost every book published on Disney and love them all. Birnbaum's is always good to read (I get it every year even if I don't go that year).
