Hi,

I just returned from WDW Saturday and have been annually for the last few years. I have found myself facinated with the design of the parks, how everything is operated, etc.

What would be the best book to buy that discusses the design and contruction of the parks, behind the scenes info, etc.?

I'd love to read more about them before I return in October (yup, going twice this year!)

I think everyone will recommend the "Walt Disney Imagineering - Behind the Dreams Look at Making the Magic Real" book. It has everything you want. I think it's fairly cheap now, it came out in 96, so you can probably get it on Amazon cheap.

I also have "Building a Dream." It's a book all about the Architecture of Disney, I haven't seen it since I got it in 96.

And their is another book with a yellow cover with the castle blueprints on the cover, I saw back in 98, but I didn't get it. I haven't seen that one since.

The yellow book is called, Designing Disney's Theme Parks: The Architecture of Reassurance

This book is not only filled with unused plans and drawings, but is a GREAT read. But definitely for adults....this is a long one.

I have all of the books mentioned above, except the one with the yellow cover, and each one has great info, and wonderful pics!
Heres a tip on finding Disney books cheap...
haunt the warehouse type bookstores..the liquidators if you wil..I found the archtecture book as well as the Character encyclopedia there...CHEAP! 50% off cover price...as well as some others...
ALSO check your local used book stores. I had a wonderful one here, where I found the "Since Time Began" and the original huge Epcot book strangely enough in the Florida section...NOT in any other! I only paid 25.00 for the Epcot book:) Its by far my favorite!
Happy Hunting!

I have all the books mentioned. I recommend getting the Imagineering one, that is great. Also Since the World began shows some stuff that was not used. It proves that Beastly Kingdom was a part of AK's design

One of my favorite Disney books is " One Day at Disney" , which takes a look at all four Disney Resorts around the world in a 24 hour time line. It shows whats happening in each park ,Tokyo opens their doors while Walt Disney World is closed and cleaning crews are at work.

It goes behinds the scenes of Disney World,Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris--this is mostly a picture book with a timeline.

I agree with Tiggrl, the EPCOT book from opening is by far the best book around. It's hard to find since its out of print. I know copies pop up from time to time on Ebay.

My vote goes for "Imagineeering" and "Since the World Began". There's also a book called "The making of Animal Kingdom"... it's very interesting, the problem is that it does not cover the Asia section, which in my opinion it's the best themed section of the park...

The guide book I really like is the Unofficial Guide. It gives good, honest reviews plus has some pretty funny comments along with it. As a seasonal cast emember I find that a lot of the things in this book are right on the mark. They also put out a smaller book by the same people that goes over the history of WDW. It is a short read, but very enjoyable and informative. You can find both of these in any book store in the travel section

I like the Unofficial Guide too - it can seem a bit "anti" Disney but I just ignore the bits I don't like (including attacking the parks like a military operation with timings planned to the second!)
