Saw this great documentary (created obv by SeaWorld) about the training and prep that goes into the show Believe.
It shows the amazing relationships that the trainers have the whales. (Recorded pre-Dawn incidient).
It's amazing the emotional that they have the whales. While outsides may see Sea World as just keeping them for money-making, I doubt it ever crosses the trainers mind and they would do it for free if they had to.
