I'm sure this question has popped up a lot in threads before, but I'm 13, and my dream is to become an Imagineer for Disney. And I want to know how. I am completely fascinated with how the park runs "Backstage", I know just about every fact Disney related, I'm constantly looking at ride blueprints, thinking of interesting ways to create new attractions, and imagining how they could be improved on. Thanks!

The Haunted Mansion or Toy Story Mania....?

Yea, I'm trying to become more of an engineering person, and I do fine arts type things at school as well...

yupp HM!

there are over 400 different types of jobs in WDI, so it all depends on what you want to do

i am personally into the fine arts/concept arts, you said you want more of the engineering( like ride vehicle, or more physics of the rides?)
post some of your artwork so i can see your talent! and what you might need to work on

I think more of a ride vehicle person. It's interesting to figure out how complex rides like Test Track and Mission: Space work. Due to the fact that my drawing skill is still limited to stick people... :ROFLOL: No, I'm not that bad, but I don't really have much artwork...

now would you like to design the ride vehicle or figure out how to make the ride system, sounds more like making ride system

I think I would prefer to build the Ride System, but if I was given the chance, I would most definitely design the ride vehicle. Also, I would like to be able to build Audio-Anamatronics/Autonomatronics, it looks like a very interesting job!

This is EXACTLY my case as well!
I'm a 14 year old Imagineer at heart. I am just confused on what to do in the future to get a chance of becoming an Imagineer.

Thanks :)

Just like you Epcot_Imagineer, i am also 13 and want to become an imagineer. I would love to dream up the rides and put them into action. It would also be great to dream up ways to make the attractions better

Awesome! Now I really see how many people like me want to be an Imagineer! That's not good though, now I see I have quite a lot of competition :ROFLOL:

Guys, almost everything that WDI does now is outsourced. Very little, other than project management and initial concept design is done in house. They still do have an R&D team at WDI, which I'm told is next to impossible to get into.

Rides like Toy Story Mania were developed almost entirely out of house. The video game part of it, the ride vehicles, the light guns, etc, it was all various vendors that were project managed by someone at WDI.

Disney mostly hires managers and high level concept designers. And most of the concept design is more on an art side than engineering.

So if you're into doing 3D modeling, which is awesome, I'd absolutely learn how to texture and animate, at least the basics and have an understanding of both 3DS Max and Maya. Because hiring a concept artist, or someone that can do high level designs for pitching projects is a lot more common than people who actually work on rides full time. Most ride stuff is done by outside vendors.
