Becoming an Imagineer

Hello fellow Imagineers. Sine about I was 5 and started to build things out of wood with my Uncle, I have always wanted to be a Civil Engineer and it is my passion to attend a good college and work for a big company. Ever since last year when I attended Disney's Wilderness Lodge, I overheard 2 Imagineers talking about a new monorail in 2010 - 2012 and I was then interested in becoming an Imagineer. I am 14 years and I was wondering, is there anything I can do as now to get ready for an Imagineer as to maybe talking to certain people and getting to know them or maybe another Discussion Board with info about it that I can join?

Thank You

I too am working to be an imagineer. The best advice I can offer you is practice creating new attractions (storyline, dialogue and all). Pick out your strengths and weakness in the creative fields necesscary to create an attraction. If you come up with a good idea, stick with it, and perfect it over time. Who knows? By the time you are eligible for the Imaginations Contest you could have an idea with the chance to win you a scholarship and a job at WDI. Keep up hope and dedication and anything is possible!

Hey Rolf,

I guess nothing new to this thread but, I too want to be an Imagineer. I'm in high school right now and am looking for a good design school (and a job :lookaroun maybe two :lookaroun :lookaroun)

I did find this site. It's nothing official but it's seems like some solid information that could prove useful in the long run. I also pulled together this amazon search for you. Most of those books are available in the parks and Downtown Disney.

Well, if I do become an imagineer or not, good luck to you folks on your path to "becoming an imagineer, and I hope I helped.

While it's good to develop your technical skills, you should try and become a renaissance man as such - trying to enjoy everything life throws at you!

I've done pretty technical things - electronics engineering, electrical engineering and software development. But I've also been a stunt coordinator/actor in a film, a producer for a couple of film directors and a freelance artist. It's always good to do a bit of everything!

At the end of the day though, it still depends on whether you get on with people and can work in a team. Better still, have an imagineer tell you to apply because they need you

Just do what you love and study what makes you happy and fulfilled. WDI has many different roles and there is room for all kinds of disciplines.

Be absolutely sure to enter the ImagiNations competition when you are in college. When you do, start with a story.

I'm about to jump on the bandwagon on this thread, but I too want to become an imagineer. And if not an imagineer, I would like to work at the parks. Always give yourself second options!!

Not sure what else to say...:lookaroun but good luck to everyone!!
Hopefully we will all meet eachother some day!

I would love to be an imagineer myself.
I'm interested in the drawing/sketching/etc. sort of things.

I am pretty sure that disney scouts from this college, so i am really excited to visit it. Anyway, I was curious if anyone else has heard of colleges that Disney scouts from.

I want to add something to this thread.

I am 17 years old and I would like to be an Imagineer as well. I really like building things such as midels and such. However, I am not the best designer. I have designed things in the past such as train layouts and some landscape designs for my yard but never anything like a ride.

What we need to remember is that an Imagineer does not only design and build rides. You can be an Imagineer and work in energy delivery services or work in building management. Sure most Imagineers build rides and that's what most people are after but it's not the only thing that they do.
