'Beauty and the Beast' To Become 8th Longest-Running Show
NEW YORK (Playbill) -- On Sunday, Aug. 4, Beauty and the Beast will become Broadway's eighth longest-running show. When the Disney musical plays performance number 3,389, it will surpass the original produc-tion of Grease to become the eighth longest running show in Broadway history. More than three million people have seen the New York production of Beauty, which is currently playing the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. Cats cur-rently holds the record for the longest-running Broadway show; Les Misérables is second, having surpassed A Chorus Line on Jan. 25. Beauty currently stars Steve Blanchard as the Beast and Sarah Litzsinger as Belle. Others in the cast include Chris Hoch (Gaston), Beth Fowler (Mrs. Potts), Jeff Brooks (Cogsworth), Bryan Batt (Lumiere), J.B. Adams (Maurice), Pam Klinger (Babette), Mary Stout (Madame de la Grande Bouche) and Brad Aspel (Lefou). Zachary Grill and Nicholas Jonas alternate in the role of Chip. "Sopranos" star Jamie-Lynn Sigler will join the cast as Belle on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
