Beaches

I've heard from some people that people aren't allowed to swim in the water at WDW beaches. I'm staying at CB Resort in August so will I be able to go in the water at the beach there?

no swim for you.
bacteria?
but renting boats still leaves the possibility of going in, so im not sure what the real danger could be.
its all disney bodies of water.
also the rumored reason for the closing of river country.

Sorry, but the short answer is no:( Some kind of "bug" in the lakes  that will make you very sick.

There are old threads on here someplace with more info. So look but do not touch the water.

Sammy Duvall's Water Sports Center located at the Contemporary Resort offers water ski opportunities on Bay Lake. You can also try parasailing if you desire. Bay Lake is the only body of water large enough on property to support such activities. Give both a try! To answer the topic of the thread, I hope I don't step on too many toes!

Sorry but WDW does not allow swimming in that 45 acre lake at the CB Resort due to watercraft and gators. You may hear the story that the water is polluted due to fertilizer and/or pesticide run off, however, that is not true. WDW is a leader in the practice of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). You may also hear the horror story about the "killer ameba" (Naegleria fowleri) that is common in water sources worldwide. Some people have reported this ameba to be of concern but the disease caused by this ameba (Primary Amebic Meningoencephalitis (PAM)) although deadly is VERY rare! You have a much higher chance of being killed by a lightning strike than contracting PAM. According to the National Weather Service, 421 people in Florida have been killed by lightning from 1959 until 2002. The Florida State Department of Health stated in 2002, "There are less than 200 cases of disease (PAM) reported in the world literature and fewer than 20 have been documented in Florida.". Just don't fall victim to the urban rumors spread by some people. However, wear your nose plug and have a great time!

And what does this have to do with the discussion??

I think they dont allow swimming simply because of the risk of lawsuits... When people swim in the beaches, there is a risk of people coming in contact with the boats... Well, Disney can just hire lifeguards to make sure this doesn't happen, you say?... Think from Disney's point of view!... why spend money on lifeguards to patrol people from going too far out when you can just ban swimming in the beaches?? Also, you never know if some lunatic will go out on one of those water mice and go on a rampage... am I making any sense??
