Welcome to Be Gay Do Crime, a thread where we can talk about being queer, imagineering ideas (I want a rainbow parade plz and thank you) and otherwise just find more of our kind. I didn't realize how many of us are here.

To introduce yourselves please leave your name (username, chosen name, nickname ect) your age (if your comfortable) your identity (sexuality, gender, questioning) your pronouns and anything else you feel like showcasing.

To start with I go by Pix here, I am 24, genderfluid/biromantic/grey-ace, my pronouns are they/them/theirs I have ADHD and will not remember these things so I need them written down cause I can't even tell you how many competitions I have done here I just don't know.

I'm Bri - 36 and I use he/him pronouns. What a lovely idea for a thread!

To get a little discussion going- are the 'gay days' at Disney official or is it something that fans created? Have you ever gone and what was your experience like?

They're created by fans. They usually rent out one of the parks one night for a party though. However, (in a sign of changing times if I've ever seen it) Disneyland Paris held an official Pride Event last year and they were supposed to have another one this year before COVID.

They aren't "official" but I actually worked during one a few years ago and got a red shirt with a rainbow and a Mickey on it. Not so subtle nods to it without outright saying it's a thing. It was great and seeing all the red shirts and couples holding hands was so heartwarming.

Okay I am slightly more awake to answer this (me, answering things while half asleep, its more likely than you think)

Short answer:No, they are not official.

Longer answer: No they are not official but as a former cast member who worked on Main Street at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor (cone shop. I will always refer to it as the cone shop. writing out the full name made me hate myself just a little bit) and had a shift on Gay Days in... ohh 2017 (?) the parks did do things even if they were subtle and not Directly Promoting them. As before I got a red rainbow shirt which I love, the bakery nextdoor sold rainbow cupcakes, and of course the rainbow mickey pins and ear hats were all out together but they stopped just short of actually promoting it.

I have no idea why Disney can do all that, clearly not subtle at all, and not just outright make Gay Days merch but i digress. There were So SO many couples in red shirts holding hands down main street, and I was still coming to terms with all aspects of my identity at the time so I had never been to pride. It was the most gay couples I had ever seen in one place and so many of them were older couples and it really went a long way to not feeling quite so alone with it all. It was magical.

I have a ton of "pride" Disney Merch. Wondering if y'all would want me to post them?

It's on Hulu. Get binging there's 200 episodes to get through

*adds to my list of never ending shows and movies I want to watch but ultimately never do because my brain holds my focus hostage and can only consume one media at a time until I have rung every ounce of serotonin out of it*

Ghost93. I'm gay and 28. He/him. I think Disney should hold official pride parades in June, filled with rainbows. HOWEVER, I think before they start doing that they need to actually have gay characters to be represented in the parade. We need gay princes and lesbian princesses. Also gay Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel characters.

Songs featured at pride events can be those that have potentially queer readings: "Part of Your World" "Out There" "Let it Go" "Reflection" "Show Yourself," "Go the Distance" etc. Maybe even some songs from the Greatest Showman like "This is Me," "A Million Dreams" and "Rewrite the Stars.",

Disney needs to openly promote rainbow merch through the month of June.

There could also be a Disney-villain-inspired drag show.
