Be Disney’s Ghost, er, Guest
LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (Orlando Sentinel) -- You can order up a customized Halloween-style banquet for your corporate meeting at Magic Kingdom’s Haunted Mansion almost year-round — except in the few weeks before Halloween itself. That’s because Haunted Mansion is so busy this time of year that employees don’t have time to set up the special dinner tables with their traditional dead floral arrangements, among other things. But after Halloween, around Thanksgiving and Christmas, the attraction is often booked by groups of up to 65 people. The dinners, held after park hours, include a magician — Prof. Abner Cadaber — and there isn’t much gore. Unless you count the most-ordered dessert: Blood-colored sorbet served in an skull made of ice. George Aguel, a Disney World senior vice president, may well be voicing many people’s opinion of the corporate mindset when he describes the market for this ghastly gastronomic event: “You might think it’s a little hokey, but not for a management-type group.”
