Bayou or Mansion

I'm going down to Disney in early May, and I'm staying at POR. I wanted the FQ but it is not taking the Fairtale Vacation Package. Anyway, I stayed at POR when it was Dixie Landings back in 1993 and I was in a Bayou and liked it, but since I'm going to be there again after 10 years I wanted to know, whick is better the Mansions or the Bayou. I like the look of the Mansions, but some of the Bayou buildings are really close to the main building. I guess, my problem is the size of POR it is so big. So my question, if it really is a question, which is the better place to stay the Bayou or the Mansions?

The Bayou is a little more cozy and secluded, whereas, the mansions aren't in the woods and they have a lot mroe rooms close together and stuff. I liked Alligator Bayou (I think that's what it is).

I've stayed in the Bayou twice and the Mansions three times, and I have to say that I personally prefer the Mansions.

What it really boils down to is which decoration you prefer....rustic or fancy?

Personally, I prefer to feel like a southern belle at the mansions...:p

Bus service was good at both...we never had a long wait for any of our stays

Distance walking to the food court was a little better at the Bayou, but in my opinion none of the distances we stayed at were ever unbearable...

Since you've never tried the mansions, consider giving them a shot. It's really only an extra couple of minutes of walking and you can enjoy the beautiful scenery! Those extra minutes will be worth it, in my opinion! :D

Well, check out this map: http://allearsnet.com/acc/pomap1.jpg

We stayed in the Bayou several years ago, but they actually seemed so much further if you didn't get the one closest to the main building. If you stay in one of the two middle mansions, they really are a hop, skip and a jump to the main building, thru Ol Man's Island. Also, Magnolia Terrace has a bus stop in its parking lot - VERY convenient. We ate breakfast in the AM and got on the bus at the main depot, but at the end of a long day it's nice to just ride around to the stop in our parking lot and only have a short walk back to the room.

The mansions are no more noisy than the Bayou, and the rooms are identical in size. It's just illusion because the Bayou's atmosphere is DESIGNED to make it seem secluded and quiet - when they're actually closer to Bonnet Creek Pkwy! The mansions are on the river, and the drive around the resort only. We love the mansions, but its really just the atosphere that shold govern it for you.

I have not been to Port Orleans since they combined the two, but I used to saty at Dixie often when I visited. I have stayed at in both the magnolia Bend and the Aligator Bayou.

I prefer the Aligator Bayou - the Magnolia Bend buildings are a little more congested and a little noiser, and they are three levels high. I also think that the landscaping around the Bayou a little better. Some of the Magnolia Bend buildings are a little closer to the main building, though (although the bus stops are spread around).

You may not have much of a choice. Most of times it was pretty well filled up, and I got what was available. I even had to wait a few times for rooms to open up.

I've been to PO 3 times and will be back my fourth this summer. First time was in the bayous and the following two, as well as this coming trip, are in the mansions. At night, walking along the river at mansion row is very peaceful and pleasant. The bayous have their own special characteristics but as for me, the mansions are IT.

Even though there are so many more room close together, it is still just as quiet at the mansions as it is in the bayous. Like said by another member, it is all up to you on your preference of architecture. :hammer:

Have Fun!!!!

we just came back from PORS Bayou and it was excellent. Woodsy and rustic. You feel like you are in a country cabin. A good bet with the kids. I don't know if all the Bayou rooms have a trundle bed but it offers a fifth bed if you need one. It slides out from under one of the queen beds.

I did walk through the Mansiond and they looked good too . More fancy and hotel like. Thay are another 100 yards from the bridges but that isn't far at all.

We stayed in the Bayou section last year and LOVED it. This year, we will be trying the mansion section though. I believe I remember reading somewhere that the mansions have elevators in them. Is this correct?

When I look at the maps of POR, it seems to me that some of the Bayou buildings seem alot farther from the main building than the Mansions do.

Plus, will it kill us to walk?
just kidding!

Depends upon which room you get. There are some that are just to the north of the building which are pretty close - especially the food court which is where you usually are going to in the main building. It also depends upon how close you are to the bridges. I don't think it is quite as spread out as some of the rooms at the Caribbean, anyway. And the pool is not right at the main building - it is on the island.

Same goes with the mansions - they are all on the other side of the river, so it really depends upon how close you are to the bridges.

Sitting here planning out next trip trying to decide which part of Port Orleans we want to stay at so I have knowledge when I book. Looking at the map, my husband, daughter and I have stayed at the farthest hotel in AB the last two years. We used to absolutely love ths resort. We stayed in Magnolia Terrace the first two times and then closer to the main building in AB once. The last two trips there were totally exhausting, dragging around an infant/toddler to get breakfast. I was even pregnant one of those years with our second.

After spending all day in the parks walking, we sometimes just want a drink and the thought of taking a 20 minute walk just doesn't sound like it is worth it.

I will be trying to get back into Magnolia Terrace if they let me this time.

The map will come in handy!

This may seem funny...but one of the reasons I like the mansions is that I get to walk across the bridges and by the main pool in the morning and in the evening. I love the scenery.

That doesn't seem "funny" or weird at all, I definately enjoy doing that same thing!

the atmosphere there is second to none in my opinion....

It's romantic...I just love going over the bridge at night. I also enjoy walking past the pool in the evening...hearing the laughter as kids dive into the water...

Hey, where in PA do you live?
