What could you actually do at the Bates Motel? I mean I was too young so i never got to visit while it was there but was it a walk-through or what?

It was just a set replica of the motel and house and eerie music played int he area. You couldn't get near either as it was blocked off. It was pretty much just "decoration". But it was really cool to look at... especially at dusk because it made it look extra creepy.

On the other hand, there used to be a whole Alfred Hitchcock attraction that included some interactive exhibits, a 3D movie and a show where they showed you how they did the infamous shower scene in Psycho. It was really cool. It was located in the building that now houses Shrek4D.

Yeah I've been on Hitchcock but I just wondered about the Bates Motel, is it true you could see 'Mother' at the upstairs window? :lookaroun

I know you could see "mother" at Universal Hollywood. They take you on the tram tour and past the Psycho house. The guides even mention to look up at the window...hehe.

I have pictures of the house and motel in Orlando. The house was still here in 1997 but the motel was gone. I don't know when they tore the house down.

I love the Hitchcock exhibit! I love Hitchcock films and have many of them on video and dvd. I was disappointed to see them take out the Hitchcock exhibit for Shrek but, I guess time marches on!

I'll post up a pic or two tomorrow of the Bates motel from opening Summer.

Aimster is right - it was very far away from everything, you couldn't really get to it. I'll have to look at my old park maps, but I remember it being in the round-about-area where the original Hard Rock Cafe was over by ET - (I clearly remember walking out the park side entrance to HRC and that being the best place to photograph it).

Does anyone know if either the Showtime sequel (IV?) or the Anthony Perkins video portion of the Alfred Hitchcock actually used it?

I know I have a photo of the Bates Motel and house from my trip in 1993, but they're up north in my parents photo albums. I can email my mom and see if she can dig them out for me. I don't have a scanner, but I may have some connections to one I can use. We'll see.

Yes it was by the old Hard Rock Cafe building. I remember it was by that Fivel's playland thing was (is?) at. I remember my mom and I walking back there to buy new HRC shirts (we collected them) and I remember just staring at the motel and house and really being both creeped out and intrigued with the creepy music playing in the area. It was also around dusk, so it made the atmosphere even creepier. I was totally digging it for some reason. Then again, when you're 18, the strangest things can captivate you. But now I'm almost 30 and I would love to see that confounded house and motel again!
