Batch processing?

Hi all

Does anyone know of a program that will reduce the filesizes of a whole load of images at once? I have just come back off holiday and have managed to batch process my photos to make them the right size in fireworks but cannot find anything to reduce the quality, (subsequently the filesize).

Thanks in advance

Photoshop can do it...easily too...

hmm...i think (but dont quote me on that) the recently acquired by google (and now free) program called "picasa" can do it too (its sorta like a really cool image browser)...google it..you'll find it :)

I'm another Photoshop type person. I reduce the file size by either making the dimensions smaller and/or increasing the JPEG compression. If that made any sense to you?

OK. So I downloaded Picasa last night to play around with and I really like it. So far I haven't been too impressed with any of the image management programs out there but this one is pretty good. Thanks for the tip NowInc.

To answer your question about resizing multiple images Al, when you click on an image in Picasa it gets added to your "Picture Tray." Once you have all the images you want to resize in the Picture Tray click on the "Export" button. This will bring up a dialog box that asks which directory you want the images exported to and a slider that will allow you to set the resolution of the exported images. Pretty easy.

Hope that helps. I'll probably stick with Phototshop for resizing but only because I like to add a little sharpening once I have resized an image.

I will have to give Picasa a try as my folks are after something to do this with their digital photos. Thanks for the pointer

Thanks for that, but I wanted the filesize reducing really, ie. the quality, i've already resized them. :) Can picasa do this? Thanks

Why do you want to reduce the filesize? If it is to make smaller images to post online or email to people then this would be the way to go. If you are looking to save storage space then using fireworks is the way to go. You will need to use the Batch Processor under the File menu. From there you should be able to tweak the jpg setting to get a smaller file (more compression) with the current image(s).

Sorry I can't be more specific but it has been a long time since I have used that program.

I use Breezebrowser to resize/watermark images for my site, as well as make them web-ready and HTML page generation

I needed them reducing so I can put them on my site, and that was just was I was looking for. I knew how to resize on fireworks, but not how to reduce the quality, so thanks a lot

I batch process in Photoshop down to 640x480 ish as well as increasing color saturation a tad, adjusting levels, and sharpening the lightness channel.

It might not be WDW but I wouldn't mind spending a couple of weeks there! What a great villa and a beautiful town. Thanks for sharing the pics.
