OK...baseball season is fast approaching & you all knew you'd be hearing about it from me again.

So....for the baseball fans out there, who's looking like "the team" this year? How are your teams holding up as far as trades go & such?

As for my Braves...if there are any Mets fans here, please don't gloat, ok? I'm miserable enough as it is. Not sure who's looking to have the best roster this year, but the Mets sure got a boost. Grrrrr

Dawn,

After last season, I guess you could say it's anybody's ballgame. After the Angels finished in last, 41 games out of first in 2001 and then they come back and win it all, who knows? Having said that, the Yankees have really improved themselves on paper and they better win with that kind of a payroll. The Mets have improved, but their biggest move was getting rid of Bobby Valentine--signing Glavine was gravy. The Phillies are also greatly improved, which should make for an interesting NL East this year. The Braves will do well and then pull their usual fold in the playoffs. Here's my division winners for this season:
AL East: Yankees
AL Central: White Sox
AL West: Mariners

NL East: Braves
NL Central: Astros
NL West: Dodgers

As a St. Louis baseball fan, it's taboo to even think about saying another team will triumph over our beloved Cards. It seems as though their offseason moves have been average at best this year, especially after the last two seasons, but then I see their offense on paper, and I say "WOW, we can't lose!" BUT, then I see the questionable rotation, and think "WOW, we can lose!"

I think the cards will win the division, but as of right now, the staff needs one more solid starter.

Line-up:

Vina
Drew
Edmonds
Pujols
Rolen
Martinez
Renteria
Matheny
P

Not too shabby!:)

I'm a diehard Cards fan, but I think this could be a long season.

Sure, the lineup is stacked, but that rotation isn't looking to great right now. Morris looks good, but after that its full of ???????

Williams is a decent number two, but who knows how healthy he can stay. I'd like better. I've liked Tomko's stuff, so he should be a good 3 with this lineup that should score runs.

4 and 5 look terrible. Simontachi was roughed up terribly last year toward the end. He has very average stuff and this could be a long year for him. A rookie #5 possibly, the bullpen took lost several guys. Ankiel is going to be the wild card.

I think the Cubs should be better and a good 3 way battle with the Astros could be going in the Central. I like what the Phillies did and would call them the early favorites in the east. Out west, I'm not sure about, I don't keep up with them too closely.

AL West should be good again, Anaheim has basically the same team, but could really be the Patriots struggling at times during the season. The A's and Mariners should be good competition.

In the Central, the White Sox look better, the Twins shouldn't be any worse. I think they will fight it out for the top spot while the rest of the division is terrible again (all under .500).

The East seems to be the Yankees to lose again. Boston might provide a challenge for a while this year, but think that the $$$$ will win out. Other than that, no one's going to matter.

MSU, you are correct about the Cards. Always remember that some of that potent offense can be traded for a decent starting pitcher. I've heard rumors of Drew being traded, but obviously nothing has happened so far. It is a potent offense and getting Rolen for a whole season should do nothing but help. Maybe Bob Gibson can come back for one more season.:)

Looks like Drew will be out until June with that knee rehab and cyst rehab.

I think Bob Gibson might be an improvement over several pitchers in the league. He wouldn't be afraid of pitching inside.

My Yankees are looking good for this season. Their first 6 batters have great potential this year. They also have around 7 or 8 starting pitchers.

As for those terrible Red Sox (right Freak  )...

Looks like it will be another 100 years until they get their World Series Rings.

Yankee pitchers and catchers tomorrow.

For me it's not that great , the Montreal Expos even when they had good players cannot keep up with the money so they have to leave Montreal ( i dont blame them !), Alou is a great coach though. The Phillies are not that good either, it's very depressing these days to be a Montreal sports fan or a Philadelphia fan too !:(

psst, Chantal...Alou isn't Montreal's manager anymore--it's Frank Robinson. I have always liked the Expos and wish they had a better situation than they do. They have had quite a knack for finding and developing young talent throughout the years, but they always move on. I wish they could stay there, but it's not going to happen. As for the Phillies, they made great strides this offseason by getting Thome and Millwood.

Well when your team has to go up against Martin "the wall" Brodeur so many times it can be tough to win.

First goalie to have at least 30 wins in 8 consecutive seasons.

Conquest for the Cup 2003 (I think you can tell I am in to Devil's Hockey)

I remember when i was a kid ( about some 28 years ago  ) i used to love Ken Dryden , and i also remember that the photographer for the Canadiens was Martin's dad , everybody knew that this kid would be a great goalie one day and he certainly has proven them right ! He does Canada and the Devils proud !

Detroit Tigers all the way!

Who knows it could happen! The only baseball I follow is my little brother's teams, but I suppose that comes with living in Detroit and the last time they had a good team was the year I was born.

LOVE my Yankees and can't wait to see them play...Talking about seeing them in Tampa during our Disney stay. Would love to say they will come out on top (praying they do), but with all the changes am not quite sure. Guess We'll have to wait and see
