Barbeque or Hoop de doo?

looking for opinions here,

we are getting ready for our annual summer fw trip. which would be better for me wife, 8 and 5 yr old, hoop de doo or backyrd barbeque. we had done hoop de doo a couple of years ago but never done the bbq...any opinions

I'm a big fan of the HOOP-DEE-DOO, but if you've already done that, why not try the Backyard BBQ????

It seems a fun outing, and the kids will like the characters being present! They will probably also like the food and atmosphere better, as it seems to be more "kid-friendly' and hey -- it's outdoors!

I have been to both the BBQ and Hoop-de-doo. Idid not enjoy the BBQ at all. I did not like that I had to entertain myself. I will not go to the BBQ again. I did not think the BBQ was worth the money. I would pick Hoop-de-doo.

But WHY is it so horrible? I was thinking about doing it too. What happens in the course of the evening? Is it structured like a Character meal or is it a free for all? :animwink:

SJTSmith, why did you have to entertain yourself? I take it there is no scheduled entertainment like the show at Hoop De Doo?

:lookaroun Ummmmmmmmmm What is the $$$$$ That might make a difference. Depending on the number of people too--

We did not go before as we thought the cost was too much for our three yr old at the time and I am sure it has gone up--. :( Like everything. Boo hooooooo

Last time I checked Hoop de do was pretty costly? Anyone know ?? PAM??? Maybe? Any discounts for passholders? :D

Here is what happens at the BBQ: (or atleast what happened at the one I attended)
First you line up and get food and drink and sit down at long picnic tables. The two DJ's or what ever you want to call them stand up and welcome you. You eat for awhile and then 4 characters come out and it is a free for all and people line up for pictures I have never seen such a mob of people pushing and shoveing over chracters. Then the characters leave and you can eat some more Then the characters return and people mob around then and then they leave and you eat dessert. The chacters return and dance around in a circle with kids. It is just a mob scene becausekidsjust run at characters. Then the characters left and a guy did some rope tricks. Then a band played.
The only entertainment was watching kids and parents push and shove to get to characters. If you are just looking to eat this is the place to go bu for that much money I wanted to be entertained. Hoop-dee-doo is 900 times better.

I hope that helps give you a better idea.

Sounds accurate to me--and it costs something like $30-35/adult...rip off if you ask me...I personally think all the "dinner shows" are over-priced, but at least Hoop-de-doo and the Luau are entertaining...there are just so many better places you can go to at Disney World...like Boma:)
