Agreed, which is kind of sad. There's nothing more Bahamian than a Vegas casino resort. Not much else to do in Nassau other than the beach though.Not a fan, eh?
I've looked through those excursions and trip reports on them over the years, and the only one I'd consider doing is Atlantis.

We did our first cruise this past June, a 4 nighter on the Dream. We wanted to spend most of our time on the ship while in port at Nassau but we wanted to do something in the Bahamas since we hadn't been there before. So in the end we gave ourselves 2 hours (we left as soon as we could in the morning) and we walked up to the Queen's Staircase and to Fort Fincastle. The walk was easy and gave us a glimpse of town and we saw something new. We made it back before our 2 hours and had the rest of the day on the ship.

I can't imagine visiting a new country for the first time and not taking time to see any of the sights/history/culture. I think I would feel I was missing out or regret it later. I've noticed there are a lot of people who don't like Nassau for various reasons but to each their own.

I'd typically agree, but Nassau is just gross, and we never felt safe. I'll never go there again.

They have an excursion that is a 'semi' submarine, a glass bottom boat were the bottom is underwater, and you actually sit underwater. My wife and I really enjoyed it. There is about a twenty minute boat ride from the dock to the sub/boat, some nice things to see on the way. They bring you back to a different dock, of course, but it's not hard to get back to the ship. Stay out of the Straw Market, and don't look/talk to anyone on the street or they will try VERY HARD to sell you something!

My first cruise was on the Wonder to Nassau, and I went on the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter. I enjoyed myself seeing the dolphins and being able to interact with them.
I didn't feel too impressed to go anywhere in town, however.

This is how I feel too. After several cruises stopping at numerous countries, Nassau is by far the worst, most unsafe feeling place, IMO. We stay on the ship. I don't like to be assaulted as soon as I get off the ship to have my hair braided, they literally get right in front of you as you are walking.

None of you have obviously been to Costa Maya. Nassau isn't pretty, but it's not the worst port we've been to.

I have been to Costa Maya, but I didn't get off the ship there. I didn't see anything there that interested me.

I also did not enjoy the town of Nassau, but enjoyed my excursion to Blue Lagoon. However I did the Sea Lion encounter.

Blue Lagoon is very nice.
Nassau, is, well Nassau. Many ports started as shipping ports, and therefore are located in the more "industrial" areas of town. I don't think the port area of Nassau is particularly pretty, but I would not call it unsafe. At least not Camden or 4th ward of Newark NJ unsafe. I wandered around the area for a while, and found some interesting shops. The Straw Market is touristy, but the merchants are friendly. My one daughter was just the other night talking about the fresh coconut she had there (years ago). I find it hard to see things, because I want to take my time. Granted the ship is there for a number of hours, but you always have that deadline looming over you.

We stopped there in 2013. We spent the morning walking to the Straw Market and stopping in some of the local shops. We went back to the ship and ate in peace and quiet and then toured the zoo. I personally enjoyed the van ride to and back from the zoo. I was able to sit in the front beside the driver and experience first hand the close encounters of driving in Nassau.

Ive always loved bahamas. Atlantis is the best! I've done the swimming with stingrays at blackboards cay. Really enjoyed it. Because I had been several times I tried to find something different and went to ardastria (sp?) gardens and really liked it. Got to feed the birds and see a flamingo show. Cheap price and just took a cab over.

We got a taxi and went over to Atlantis. We paid dearly to visit the aquariums, which are pretty cool I guess. We wandered around the resort and I paid $5 for the smallest diet coke I have ever seen. We ended up taking a taxi back town and stopped in at the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch. It wasn't a bad day but I would not have minded staying on board and saving some money. We actually had more fun at Freeport doing a kayak and snorkeling excursion.
