Backing Up Photos

So I did a search and didn't find a dedicated thread to backing up photos so if their is one I apologize.

For trips:
- First line of defense for me is to leave memory cards full, but sometimes I need more space so I delete them, and YES I already backed them up before.

- I use a laptop to transfer the images to an external hard drive that lives in the hotel room safe, in case of fire or sticky fingers.

-And last but not least I carry several large Flash Drives with me and back the photos up onto them as well. Now these stay with me at ALL times during the trip. I have 2x 32GB drives and 5x 4GB drives. I don't usually have to use more than the 2x 32GB drives but I have the others just in case.

This allows me some security when I am traveling, one in the hotel if I get mugged, guaranteed one full copy on me in case there is a fire at the hotel.

HOME:
-I have all photos on my main Computer, obviously.

-I have a several External Hard drives at my parents house (8x 1TB drives to be exact)

- I use Amazon S3 service to do online backups of ALL my photos. Price is $0.015 per GB storage and $0.030 per GB upload, which means you get hit harder on the upload than on the storage.

- I also have a large portion on my Flickr account hidden from public view since many of them are for professional use, but just another backup.

So what does everyone else do to back up their photos on their trips and at home?

The only reason I am this crazed about backing up is that my brother lost 45,000+ images, that he had on hard drives in the apartment he was in, to fire. The entire complex burnt down over a year ago and it emphasized the point of backing everything up off site. He was always telling me to back up all my data before it, but he never took the drives out of the apartment. Now he uses Carbonite to back up online and also leaves hard drives with our parents.

Oh and incase you are wondering.....probably not, but anyway the hard drives are encrypted with trucrypt for added security....if they get robbed or something. Even my Flash Drives are encrypted incase of theft.

Come 2012 it wont make a difference....

I have all of my photos backed up, full resolution on smugmug.com in case my house ever floods or burns down or whatever. I also run a full hard drive back-up onto an external drive (using Time Machine) every couple weeks.

On vacation I don't worry about it.

I try to maintain at least 2 copies. Once I fill a card, I dump the card to laptop. I don't delete the card until I have burnt a DVD from the laptop. Once I have burnt the DVD I purge any complete garbage shots, and back up good shot to an external HD and a remote server. DVDs stay at home, HD stays at work.

On trips I drop full cards in the room safe if I don't have a laptop with me.
