Baby Swap Question

Well, my wife's parents cant go with us in November... So with that said i need to figure out how this baby swap thing works. I am reading conflicting information from across the web.

So from what i can gather my wife and i will go up to the attraction and tell the fastpass CM or whatever CM is standing there that we intend to do the baby swap. Now does one of us have to stand in line or use fastpass? I know when the my wife is done with the ride first they place me at the front of the line, but can we use fastpass and still use the baby swap?

this could mean that we could get fastpasses for 2 different rides right?

Right?

The baby swap system is really easy. All you do is find the castmember in the fastpass line, tell them your doing a baby swap, they will then give you a baby swap slip, you or your wife hangs out while the other rides the ride (use your fastpass if you have it, or wait in the regular line) then once you come off the non riding member goes to the fastpass line with the baby swap slip and rides the ride, super easy! :)

You can swap babies at WDW?
How cool is that!?
I should tell my neighbor to go to WDW on vacation.
They have a really ugly baby.

I am not sure if they do the baby swap at the fast pass line but if they do and do not require you to produce multiple fast passes you would in essence turn two fast passes into three.

The baby swap works just like a fast pass except that it can be for up to 4 people and does not have a time stamp on it. The way it would normally work in a standby line is you get in line and ask the CM for a baby switch pass. The person with the baby gets out of line with the baby and waits for their parties return. They can then use the baby swap pass to get themselves along with 3 others into the fast pass line.

SO this is no different then a fastpass? So if each parent has a fast pass, it has the same effect as a swap.

Be careful you could end up swapping an ugly baby with one that has Dumbo ears :lookaroun

The system is as great as I expected. I thought both parents stayed in line and swap at the front and exchanged when one got off the ride. It can be a very long wait if the ride doesn't offer fastpass

Yes and no. It will work the same as a fast pass but it allows more people to go through on a single pass and there is not time stamp. For instance let us say that you have a family of 5 and the youngest child can not ride due to a height requirement. For the first ride mom stays with the little one and dad rides with the other 2 kids. They meet up with mom after they have ridden and dad stays with the child while mom rides with the other two.

What if no fastpass queue?

I could be wrong, but I don't think they have baby swap for attractions without fastpass. I think it is only available for rides with a height requirement of 40" or more.

The purpose of it is to allow people to switch off if a child or children in the party are too short to ride. If they are tall enough to ride, but just prefer not to, they will not always give you the swap pass.

When my kids were smaller my son was afraid of most rides and so my husband took my daughter and rode and I waited with my son and when they come out, I went on with my daughter. She got the best part of it, getting to ride twice. Didn't have baby swap or fast passes then and our system worked fine. I didn't mind the wait, my son and I would walk around, or he'd busy himself drawing or something, sitting in the stroller.

Child swap passes are easy. We went to the CM at the beginning of the fastpass line for Test Track and told him that my aunt was waiting with the little one, but wants to also ride. He gave us a child swap ticket, good for the person waiting while the others ride, and 2 other people. When we came off the ride, my aunt and two others just got in the fastpass line and went on the ride...it is not as confusing as it seems. The CM will explain it to you anyway when you are there.

We're going to WDW for the first time this December, so I'm not speaking from experience but rather from what I've read on other posts... Some people have described a 'holding zone' of sorts on the rides where you could wait with a not-wanting-to-ride child while your spouse rides, then switch off and get on the ride immediately, rather than having to wait in the fast pass line after the others get off the ride. If everyone who wanted to ride had Fast Passes, wouldn't this be a lot faster (assuming you could get the little ones who aren't riding to wait in the line)? Is this option offered still, and is it only offered on certain rides?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has info to share!

Never heard of this being available for regular guests. Nearly every attraction has a back door of sorts (usually the chicken exit) that VIP's, tour groups etc can be brought through and avoid the line but never have I heard of this being done for day to day baby swaps.

My first thought was "I'll swap your baby for my two in college" :p It might be cheaper for me but you would be in a pickle cause it is expensive! Then I read the post and figures it out, I am slow tonight!

OK. Thanks! I read something on one of the forum posts about doing this on Tower of Terror... but I'll just go with what the majority of folks are saying about child swap passes, which is that they're similar to FastPasses but allow more than 1 person per pass and don't have expiration times stamped on them.
Thanks again!

That is precisely how it works at some attractions. So it's a bit different on different attractions.

For example, on RnRC, you tell the CM at the head of the queue that you want to do child swap. They will direct you to a room that has two doors, one on the load side, and one on the exit side. They will tell you to go through to the exit and wait for the other person (or persons - we do this with my older DD, and she gets to ride twice!).

When the first person (or persons) finish, the one who was watching the child who doesn't want to (or can't) ride, the other goes back through the two doors and tells the loading CMs that they just swapped a kid, and then you get to ride right away.

At ToT, you tell the load CM that you want to child swap, and one person is escorted on an elevator (a NORMAL elevator - although the CM usually has a joke of some kind about it) down to the exit area. You wait with the child who's not riding, pass him or her off, then you ride the elevator back upstairs to the head of the queue, possibly with a second person who gets to ride twice.

At Dinosaur, you are directed to wait in the gift shop, then are escorted back through the exit to the head of the queue.

Each attraction has a slightly different arrangement. I believe on Dinosaur, you have a choice to wait in the gift shop, or to meet up outside, and then use a special pass to go back through the pre-show. And there may be some variations.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to kid swap on virtually any attraction, whether it has FP or not. I could be wrong, but I thought that that was the policy. You may have to all wait on line together, carrying an infant, for example, but at the head of the queue, I'm sure there is a way to use the "chicken exit" to kid swap on virtually every ride.
