.avi files

Could someone tell me what to use to see.avi files. A friend has given me a bunch of cds with attraction videos and I don't know how to view them.

I'm using a Mac, G4, OS 9.2. I've tried quicktime but it doesn't handle that type of file, windows media viewer doesn't work either. I also tried a third program (real media? real movie? can't remember, it was on my other computer) but that didn't work either Someone said that quicktime pro might be able to convert them but I haven't got that program.

Anybody have any ideas

Thanks

I would suggest the latest version of Windows Media Player, but as you are using a Mac, which I know nothing about, I don't know if this is possible for you.

If I have any trouble viewing a file on my PC, I use any number of downloadable programs to convert to different file types that are more useful to me. I don't see any reason you couldn't download a program to convert .avi to .mov to use with Quicktime. This may take a while though as .avi files always seem to take a long time to encode, convert etc.

If you download the FREE divX package for mac, you get a free media player with it (at least thats what worked for me a few months ago when i was stuck on a mac at a friends house)..it should play all types of AVIs...

Get it here::
