We are trying to decide if a trip August 11 - 19 would be right for us. Can anyone please help us decide?

What are the crowds like?

What is the weather like for the most part?

Any info you can provide is helpful, thanks!!

Okay, I've been down in August before a few times. Actually, I was down the last week of August last year. From what I understand, it can still be pretty busy in early to mid August, but when I've been the last week, it's practically empty and I've only had to wait over 30 minutes for an attraction once. What I will say is, if you don't like your temps in the mid to high 90s with a good amount of humidity, then maybe you should go a different time. On the plus side, there are plenty of air conditioned areas around, so you can always duck into shops and other attractions to cool off quickly. Also, if you go to a park in the morning and have some fun, you can head back to the hotel and hang out at the pool during the hottest part of the day, then go and hit another park at night. I just really like to go down then, mostly because of the lack of crowds. Alot of people will either have their kids back in school(Orlando goes back on August 9th this year) or getting ready to have their kids go back(first week of September). If you get your kids things together and ready for school before you go, then last week of August is great, in my opinion.

i don't know if you ever experienced the florida heat if you haven't then be prepared because it mat be any where from 90 to 100 and it will probably be very crowded because in south florida school starts the 16th so it may be busy because alot of people go just b4 school starts because it may be their last trip until the holidays

As far was Christmas crowds, I couldn't say. Never been at that time of year. As for rain, figure on average about 20 minutes a day, somewhere around 3PM. That's what I've usually had. Sometimes, it'll rain a little more than that, but I really haven't had too bad an experience with the rain then.

My Wife and I spent our honeymoon there from July 27 - aug 4. The parks were busy everyday but nothing we couldn't handle, As long as you don't mind standing in line you'll have a blast. Also we found if you plan a bit and use the Fast Passes you really can make the most of your time. In terms of the weather it was hot and getting into the a/c was a life saver drink lots of H2O and you'll be fine. We did get a shower every day they were usually short 15-20 minutes but they always felt pretty good. That makes me think of the time we got onto BTMR and it started to rain just as we left the boarding area, about 1/3 of the way through the skies opened up and we were soaked it was a great time. Hope that helps.

The crowds aren't NEARLY as bad as Christmas! We went during Christmas once and that was enough, but when we went in late August the crowds weren't as bad. However, the humidity is bad so just be prepared if you don't like to be hot.

We went late in August 1999. The parks were still open late, and the crowds were low. We did an e-ride night and the park was really empty. Before we left home, we had my daughters school supplies all purchased and in her backpack ready for school the day after we got home. The rain was usually brief in the afternoons. We didn't even purchase ponchos. We would go to an indoor attraction and not worry about getting a little wet if it was still raining when we got out. Since I don't like the heat & humidity, all our trips since 1999 have been in the spring and our next one will be the week before Christmas this year.

I will be down there during this time. I don't mind it. Generally in my home area, it is 90 and humid anyway, why not be in Disney if I am going to be hot!

Don't get me wrong, there are crowds during this time of the year but at the same time, if you use Fastpass and take advantage of the last E-Ticket Ride nights on 8/11 and 8/13, you will get a lot more done when the sun is down.

If the E-Ride nights are any indication, Disney expects there to be a fall-off of attendance after 8/14-8/15 (and not as many CPs to work it since they all have to leave to go back to school).

We always go to disney the last week of August.

Plan to go the last week of august this year, too. Although it's hot and humid, it's also pretty hot and humid here in NYC. Usually have a mid-late afternoon thunderstorm, but it tends to pass quickly. Always remember light crowds (no more than 20-30 min wait for most popular rides, etc); think that students in FL return to school sometime in August. There are lots of places to escape from the heat. Have a great trip.

We go every year in August. We own a time-share and our week is the second week in August. The crowds are manageable and I would recommend you use the fastpass system to help lower the amount of time you wait in line. As for the weather, everyone else has pretty much summed it up. It is very hot and humid. It does rain everyday but the storms are very scattered and it does not rain for long periods of time. There have been years where the rain totally missed us and other years where we were rained on a lot.

I like going in August because I like to look forward to my vacation all summer and we get our vacation in before school starts. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a wonderful trip!

we go every year in august. this year we are going August 14-21 because I have to get back to start college on the 26th. if it wasn't for that, we would go the last week of august. the crowds are not that bad, the weather is tolorable (sp?..sorry long day!) and there is usually a quick shower every night but that is about it. NEVER GO AT CHRISTMAS TIME lol

I went in Aug. a few years ago--did AK and it was brutal. Of course, Summer is a hot time anyhow. Wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water. The spray bottles w/ fans are great too =)

You will most likely get one day with more than a scatterd shower. One day where it will rain pretty constantly.(At least that's always my experience.)If you don't mind getting a bit wet, use this day for Animal Kingdom. When I went in '99 I went to AK on a brutally sunny and humid day...it was wretched. Last year I went on a rainy day. The lines were shorter, and there is suprisingly a lot of tree cover, especially in the Oasis and exploration trails. Everyone else was hiding in resteraunts waiting for some sun, and my wife and I got to take our time watching the Apes with almost no one around.
And, people tend to leave animal Kingdom if it rains so lines were pretty short for the rest of the day.
