August Crowds - Any Help Appreciated

Our last three trips have been in the off season (November and May). This year, however, DS is in kindergarten (DD is not in school yet). I don't have a problem pulling him out of school for a week in May. But my fear of flying means we drive from NJ to FL. So we would get only about 5 or 6 days in Disney. Then I started thinking about going in the summer. If we go then, we can spend two weeks in Florida.

I have been there in July. It was hot and crowded. I am more concerned about the crowds. Can anyone tell me their experience in the last two weeks of August. I searched this forum but only found a couple posts on Wait Times and Crowds for August.

Thanks.

Never personally been in August, but from what I understand it's hot and crowded. I'm sure others will come up with their personal observations from actual experience.

Here's another possibility - see if you can overcome your fear of flying. I have seen that airports in the UK do special seminars for people afraid to fly, so I am sure they must also occur in America. They seem to have a good success rate. There was a TV program here detailing how various phobic people were treated and it included a member of ground crew for an airline who was terrified of flying. Whilst she did not make it on board after the first session - the camera followed her to the ram and onto the plane before she ran off it in fear. However she then went to antoher session and made it into the air.

That way you get a two-fer: Off-peak crowds and gain the ability to face flying.

Just a suggestion

The last two weeks of August are MUCH less crowded. Florida schools go back around the 10th or so, and many schools up north go back in the second half of the month. So if your child doesn't start till after Labor Day, that's an excellent time to go crowd wise. It will be hot and humid, but so will anytime in the summer. May isn't all that much better. August is Hurricane season, and as we all found out last year, that can really mangle some vacation plans. But even then, the parks themselves really only had a couple days of problems. Our trip last year was from August 13th through the 22nd with Charlie over the first weekend. I found crowds quite managable and would go again in that time frame, even with a hurricane threat.

We usually go during the last 2 weeks in August. Its still crowded, its hot and it rains everyday. I'm not big on flying, but we have done it a few times in the past and I have to say its easier than driving from NY.
