August 2022 Resort Availability?

I'm looking to plan a trip for Aug 20-27, 2022 for my family of 5 (kids are going to be 9, 5, and 5). I haven't been to WDW since 2012 so I know a ton has changed, especially in the planning process.

I've been poking around Disney's website to look at resort accommodations and I have been surprised to see limited availability of rooms at certain resorts. One good example is the Polynesian, which only lists club-level rooms as being available for my party and my dates.

Now I know no one is going to know for sure, but I'm hoping that someone can help me to understand what is going on.

Is it more likely that those rooms have sold out, ~8 months in advance? Or is there another reason that they would be held back and not immediately available to me?

I figured that since this is a seasonally light period at WDW for attendance, that it would be unlikely that all of the non-club rooms at the Polynesian would already be spoken for. It is entirely possible that I am just woefully naïve about the planning process and booking much too late.

Any help here would be appreciated.

It's highly likely the rooms are sold out though it might be more accurate to say they've sold as many rooms as they have currently put on sale. The resorts are not running at 100% capacity right now and they haven't announced when they will. I was originally planning a trip to the Poly for Oct 2022 but there was no availability so we moved to mid-Sept 2022 and most categories were available when I booked last month. I just checked again and for our dates, only the standard room is now available. Based on what I've read here, it sounds like the most popular resorts and room types are pretty solidly booked throughout 2022 which is one reason there are no discounts.

The club level at the Poly only recently reopened for booking which is why those rooms are still available. I wouldn't expect that to remain true for long though.

Here's my take, and I'll use my situation. I booked a vacation for this Feb, and I come to find out that there's absolutely zero availability. Many people here have stated one reason is that WDW just doesn't have the staff to fully manage the resorts. I believe that explanation but I think it still hammers home that there's going to be a lot of people going to WDW.

IF you're going in August, consider a couple of things, first its going to be HOT, like really HOT and humid. Now consider that its going to be crowded - very crowded.

You need to figure out if 100+ degrees + 100% Humidity + 100% humanity is something you're willing to tolerate - especially during a pandemic.

One of the major reasons for my family and I chose to cancel our February vacation was reports of how crowded the parks are, and because of Disney's decision to do away with the free fast passes, standby lines are now 1 and 2 hours (if not more). For us it just didn't seem worth spending so much money (too much to be honest) to be in a sea of humanity especially at a time where the covid numbers appear out of control again. Granted for us, those numbers would hopefully go down by Feb, and likewise for you, this summer we should see a decrease.

I'm not trying to paint a negative picture for you, but items that need to be considered when you make decisions on your vacation.
