why do you think its in antarctica?maelstrom said:Atlantis is in Anarctica. It is not in the Mediterranean. What are these people thinking? It's probably just some Minoan ruins or something.
I think its somewhere off the coast of Europe...to the west-southwest...nearer to the Iberian peninsula and Northwestern Africa...thats just what I think...then again Atlantis could prove to be nothing more than a myth...something made up...still I like myths...AliciaLuvzDizne said:why do you think its in antarctica?
This would be pretty cool if they really did find atlantis...
objr said:"Plato wrote of Atlantis as an island in the western sea, which has been widely interpreted to mean the Atlantic Ocean."
I also don't think what was found is the remains of Atlantis...
There are theories that Atlantis was a large island in the Atlantic Ocean, which as Plato mentions, laid in front of the mouth of the pillars of Hercules (straits of Gibraltar).speck76 said:But Plato was Greek, and parts of the eastern Mediterranean would still have been somewhat west/southwest of Greece......The Black Sea would have been the "eastern sea".
There is no way Plato would have written of a place as far off as "in the Atlantic", and that such a place would have figured into historical stories as much when it was that far away.....the majority of major civilizations were east and south of Greece during his time.....the only exception really being Carthage, and much later Rome.

If Atlantis would have been closer to the big civilized sections...there would be more records of trade, wars, more historical record that Atlantis existed...if its out of the way...it stands to reason that there would be less known...I personally don't think that Atlantis is in the Mediterranean....

I could have sworn they found some lost civilization beneath Cuba, but I'm not sure if they coined it as Atlantis or not, maybe it was a comparison. I'll see if I can find the link.
