I have never seen the movie, I always wait for the DVD's. As usual, the new DVD's will be better than the movie in that several "cut scenes" will now be seen. Another point here, I always preorder the DVD's through the Disney Store and get a couple of great lithos in the process. I always frame them in non-glare glass and they look great. Anyone else collect these?

From an artistic standpoint..I think Atlantis is a leap above all other films Disney has done so far..they have found a way to integrate death without losing the Disney feel...and prooved that there are no challenges too large for them as far as animation goes.

Lack of songs? Eh..I dont miss it...but thats just me. I know its harder for kids to "connect" with a cartoon unless it has songs in it tho...so I think they should put them back in....

I agree, Now, Atlantis was an amazing peice of art. My friends and I all looked at eachother in amazement when we first saw the Ulysses gliding through the water. The CG looked awesome! Hmm, and about songs, some should have them, some shouldn't. Atlantis and Treasure Planet shouldn't, all the movies that came before should, and hmm, I don't know what else should, because aside from Lilo (which I can't decide about songs) I don't know what's coming.

Coincidentially enough, I recently was involved in a debate on my Art forum about how people are seeing the lack of "songs" in disney Movies latley is a sign of them being too cheap to pay someone to write them. I found this to be not only funny, but quite obsurd.

On an art board of all places, you would expect the people to notice the amount of work that went into this amazing movie, and know that it was FAR from cheap. They would also realize that plopping a song down into it at any time would of TOTALLY ruined the mood of this (in my opinion) masterpeice.

The Art Director of Atlantis is someone I have actually had the pleasure of meeting once (more years ago then I will mention), and spending time with that individual was purely inspirational. Any "artist" out there, weather they like disney or not (which most artists HATE disney for various reasons...but thats a whole other post) cannot deny the beauty of this movie. In a time where more and more people get bitten by the "anime bug" (eww), they stood up and answered with a unique style...as they have ALWAYS done for the past 30+ years. An Art Director at Disney has a lot to live up to, and with a song and dance theme thrown in, it really limits their headroom..and would most likley result in a flat out bad movie. Thats why the songs are pretty much reserved now for sequals and such...because they already have a style.

Ok..did that sound like a rant? I hope that made sence...

Nah!! Not to much of a Rant LOL
Sequals:(:brick: :fork:
I am not one for Sequals
I wont buy or go see any of those Like Return to Neverland
Or Cinderella 2
or Lady & the Tramp 2
Dont try to Improve on a Good Movie
Or is it just about Money these days??

Personally I am waiting for the Special Edition (There is ALWAYS one)...shouldnt be more than a few months. I can go on record as saying that I have NEVER been dissapointed by a Disney DVD (as far as content and quality)...so I say if you cant wait for the SE..go snag a copy ;)

Yeah, I couldn't wait and i had to buy the regular edition. I don't think my mom is gonna let me get both, so I'm stuck with this one, still, it's pretty cool sutff. I hope I'm not missing too much. At least i've got the audio commentary.

I don't know about a "special edition" but a collectors edition was released at the same time which is a two disk set that I think is great – although a lot of people probably won't appreciate the TONS of production information on the second disk... One side note is that the only extra scene that is animated is the Viking Prologue which we saw part of in the previews before it was cut in the final movie (they explain why on the disk) The other two scenes are only storyboard art with basic voice-overs which probably wouldn't interest normal people so much...
