Astro Orbiter removal - relocation or scrap?

I heard rumors about the removal of Astro Orbiter, at least from the entrance to Tomorrowland.

However, I have a concern: when I think of a removal, I think of something being gone for good. In the rocket ride's case, is it being relocated (say, in front of Space Mountain, as was the original plan) or is it being scrapped for good?

I don't believe it either, but I wouldn't mind it.

Actually removing stuff from the entrance would improve things, in my opinion. Namely, the rockets and the giant french fries.

I will say, I found MiceChat's rumor of the rockets moving to the Space Mountain Concourse a bit far-fetched. I doubt Captain EO would be able to hold that kind of weight above it without some serious reconstruction, but that's just me speculating.

It would require rebuilding and likely the elimination of the theater, but would provide an opportunity to also enhance the Space Mountain queue.

That's the thing - the same MiceChat article said that the theater would be used to house a new show. Just seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to for spinny rockets, but stranger things have happened.

It would not surprise me to that much effort seeing as the Magic Kingdom now has four of them. Reusing the theater seems like it would be difficult unless the center of the spinner was near the edge (back of the theater) because you need someplace for the mechanics of the ride to exist. Laser projectors would enable a lot of the projector equipment to be moved elsewhere.

My main concern with them putting the Orbitor or something like it in front of Space Mountain is that there's really not much room over there, even if they did get rid of the 3D theater.

I hope they get rid of the current version of that eyesore. I was recently thinking how long it's been the way it is (since 1994), and that hopefully it's finally "outdated" enough to make them redo it. To me, it looks like a giant mobile of something a 5 year old would have in his bedroom. I loved the clean, streamlined, simplistic look of the original Astro orbiter (or Star Jets as they were called). Maybe with some of the recent changes (like the Laugh Floor sign being made retro again), they will simplify it to that retro-future theme (also in line with that new exit ramp from space mountain).

Why is there a 5 year old thread that was bumped, then the person who bumped it deleted their post, leaving only TROR's response as evidence?

I got really excited that there was a potential new rumor until I saw the date.
Sorry about this confusion.

I realized I posted this in the wrong thread- and had left a comment up for a little while saying that I would delete my original comment and move it to another thread (which is the one titled "How would you make the Astro Orbiter better."), and I expected the replier to do the same.

Mods, feel free to delete these comments. Being new, I was still in the process of getting used to this forum at the time.
