Nice work! You could definatally swing it as a computer animator...you seem to have a good sence for detail as well as lighting.
Yes..I have definatally heard of ringling
They are REALLY hard to get into (something like 70 students a YEAR get in..out of over 3000 applicants)...however They are losing their "edge" in the computer animation major. They are MORE than great for Fine arts, however if you are only interested in computer animation there are tons of schools out there that are better. For example::
The school I went to...The Art Institute of Ft.Lauderdale...Yes..its a private art college..it WAS one of the worst art schools in the country about 7 years ago..but...thanks to the efforts of myself and the rest of my graduating class have made it now one of the top 10. With one of the nations largest animation departments (over 80% of the school is now dedicated to animation). The new head of the Computer Animation department is actually an ex Disney employee..as well as a few of the teachers. There is of course a few MAJOR downsides to AIFL..such as lack of parking..the price...and the lack of a campus (dont get fooled...they dont have a campus..and the dorms are REALLLY nasty).
Some other schools you may want to check out (I have friends who go to or went to most of these) are:::
Ohio State Universidty (one of the fastest growing animation departments in the world)
San Fransisco Acadamy of the Arts (fantastic school)
CAL arts (hands down the BEST art school in the world...not to mention they are affiliated w/ disney)
O..and just in case you are wondering...The Art Institute has over 12 schools worldwide..but NONE of them have as good of an animation department as the one in Ft.Lauderdale.
hmm..what else...
O yeah....although its a GREAT asset to have...2d Drawing is only used in the conceptual stages in computer animation...
If you are interested in ONLY 2D animation (poor soul) then I would suggest traditional art schools...most of which really dont teach 2d animation anymore...
And finally...I leave you with a word of warning::
THERE ARE NO JOBS!!! Putting all current events aside..the animation industry has been DEAD for the past year or so. A crippled economy....as well as there being TOO MANY animators out there cause for no job openings. For example...I graduated with a class of 84 (a small class compaired to all the other art colleges)..and only 7 of us are working..and out of that 7...3 of us are actually doing animation. There are over 1000 new animators graduating college every 4 months in the US alone...all fighting for the same jobs...hopefully the numbers will change...but just in case..you MAY want to cover yourself with a backup plan.
If you have any questions...PLEASE feel free to ask..I am always available to help out fellow artists.
