I am narrowing down where to stay on our first night(arriving in orlando 8/25 at about 7:00 pm).We are checking into pop on sun 8/26,but need somewhere to stay on the first night.Seeing several threads recently about crime and wayward teens(no offense,i have 2 older teens of my own and would avoid them as well, if i could:brick: LOL),i am wondering what areas to avoid? Is kissimmee(correct spelling?)a safe clean area, better yet, which are the areas where you just wouldn't stay?I am getting visions of staying on the wrong strip, like in virginia beach or the jersey shore:dazzle: .Or the fantabulous hardeeville, south carolina.Any opinions?

I really prefer the LBV area, which is east of WDW around FL HWYs 535, 536. Not sure of your budget, but you may want to look into those, maybe someplace on Palm Parkway or the Marriott Village.

Kissimmee/HWY 192 is the side to avoid as that has the highest concentration of cheaper motels, though there are a few decent places to stay. The Radisson Parkway in Celebration just "east" of I4; the older Radisson Worldgate, 192 West was also okay for us, but not as nice (caveat: many people really do not like that place). Stayed at both (Priceline) and found them adequate. Check out tripadvisor for reviews of Orlando/Kissimmee hotels. FWIW.
