Are World of Color and Fantasmic! Dining Packages Worth It?

I'm just starting to think about planning my trip for next year. I have never been to DL. I will have an infant and 6 yo with me (along with my husband). Are these dining packages worth it? I don't mind paying a little extra for convenience. I have a feeling we won't be able to move around as quickly as I'd like with an infant, so it might be nice to have the guaranteed Fastpasses.

You will still need to arrive early to each show, even with a dining FP for them, unless you're visiting a very uncrowded time (unlikely). The big difference is the location of the viewing area. Blue Bayou/River Belle guests get prime front and center viewing for Fantasmic. Typically, Carthay Circle guests get the most exclusive central viewing for WOC as well, with Trattoria and Grotto guests nearby.

It certainly offers a convenience and in some cases, the price difference is negligible (you'd be hard-pressed to get out of Blue Bayou with a three course meal for less than $61/per adult without Fantasmic dining). So if the prices don't scare you, go for it.

I've done the WoC dining package from Carthay Circle 4 times and never been disappointed with the dinner or view. Once I was made to move for a woman in a wheelchair but I'm the type of person who gives up his seat on a WDW bus for a woman. That's just who I am. So yes, its worth it.

We just did the World of Color and Fantasmic dining packages this past Thursday and Saturday and really enjoyed both of them.
Blue Bayou and both the shows were a priority for us, so the cost wasn't a big issue, and to be honest Carthay Circle's food and cocktails (ice spheres!) were probably the most enjoyable experience of it all.
Not sure if it would be as cost-effective or fun with 2 kids in tow; I guess it depends on your kids.

Not as early, though. More like 30 minutes instead of an hour and a half.

Also, it really pays to know where you're supposed to go to line up for your premium seating area.
Frontierland and New Orleans Square became a chaotic, poorly-lit, gridlocked pandemonium before show time, and most of the cast members we asked seemed confused as to where we were supposed to be lining up. I would hate to try to navigate this mess with small children. Eventually we found someone who pointed us on the right direction: the Blue Bayou dining package people queue to the far, far left of the area, in a disorganized mass near the Harbor Galley restaurant, though this could certainly change by next year.

If we had known, we would have spent the time before we were told to show up to queue in Critter Country, rather than halfway across the park, but as our dinner was very early, like 4:30, we had drifted quite a bit.

The World of Color reservations we got from Carthay Circle were much easier to use, as the viewing area at Paradise Pier is much better organized and easier to navigate, since it's not a long, winding strip.

When you get a WoC/Fantasmic pack are you limited to only selected item from the menu? If this is the case, did anyone have trouble finding something they would really enjoy from the limited offerings? The packages sound great, but I would like to be able to choose from the entire menu.

Or put another way:

Normal Blue Bayou: http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_bayd.htm
Fantasmic Blue Bayou: http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_baydf.htm

Normal Carthay Circle: http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_carthayd.htm
World of Color Carthay Circle: http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/men_carthaydw.htm

As you can see, there aren't a whole lot of differences other than some limitations to Carthay Circle's appetizers and desserts.
Part of me wonders if the main reason they print separate menus is so that everyone getting the packages won't just order the most expensive entrees.

Note that these menus aren't 100% up to date. At Carthay Circle, for instance, the soup appetizer was a Malaysian one and was absolutely exquisite.

Finally, they're not going to stop you if you insist on paying extra for things that aren't on the package menus.
For instance, we insisted on getting one of those silly glow cubes at Blue Bayou and paid extra for it.

I know you are probably talking about F!, but I wanted to mention that while the WOC crowds aren't as big as they used to be, I would expect them to go up considerably after May 22, when the new WOC show debuts. I also wonder if there will be a bump in crowds right before the change over from people wanting to catch the old show one last time (I wouldn't, I have seen it 4 times in the last year which was probably about 2 times too many).

Wow! I thought there would only be 3 choices. I am definitely doing this for both BB and CC, I think it will be worth it.

How far in advance can I book? I am staying off site so is that 30 days out. Do I need to have my tickets before I can book the dinner packages?

I was looking at the rack of lamb at Blue Bayou, so that is covered. I was looking forward to the firecracker duck wings at Carthay, but I can do without or order it as well. Has anyone tried the duck wings?

Thanks for all the information! This community is pretty awesome!

Dining reservations are available 60 days out to all guests. Tickets aren't needed, but a credit card guarantee is.
