I also vote for vampires, since they have supernatural powers, but zombies will continue to decompose (or at least that's what they should be doing on Walking Dead!).

It really depends on what type of vampires we're talking about here. If it's the ones from the Twilight series, then zombies win by a landslide. Robert Pattinson would start whining about his feelings, and the zombies would be free to feast at will.

But if it's the vampires from a more respectable vampire film, say, Salem's Lot...then the zombies don't stand a chance.

Vampires over zombies. The reason is that vampires are cunning and intelligent, and have withstood the test of time (some for centuries), which I think would give them the edge over zombies. Zombies appear to be brain-dead, carcasses in motion, but no intelligent life going on there..

Let's utilize logic, shall we? And who better than me, Mr. Rational.

If the world were to be reduced to a level of degradation such as the one mentioned here in this thread, then we can assume that the majority of its humanoid inhabitants would be split between zombies and vampires. A simple examination of the two should prove fruitful in settling this matter.

Zombies. Depending on the film, they can be slow or fast moving. The majority of films have them as slow and lethargic. They possess no rational thinking, rarely use tools, and can generally be outwitted by a quick thinking racoon. Their only purpose involves personal gratification through the eating of human flesh.

Vampires. Smart, strong, and capable of every human function, excluding tanning. They are able to utilize weapons and are capable of rational thinking. Their purpose in life differs from film to film, but generally speaking they exist to survive as a species and to experience a sense of personal gratification..

The Verdict. Although vampires would find it difficult to survive without a fresh supply of normal human blood, they would easily dominate the sluggish and dim-witted zombies. Additionally, having a piece of flesh bitten away from an appendage and the related infection incurred from zombie saliva are not included in the list of things that threaten a vampires life. Vampires win.

All I know is this: if there is an apocalypse, I'm staying away from @rsoxguy and @Nemo14. I'm pretty sure either of them would shoot my knee out to enable them to gain a speedy getaway whilst the zombies, vampires, or both feast on my incapacitated self.

Now where did I put my frying pan...?
You are so wrong, that philosophers weep at the sound of your voice. I am a compassionate man, and I would only shoot your knee out if you bored me with inane conversation.

Zombies. All you need is a few pieces of silver, some garlic and a stake to kill a Vampire. Zombies you need a large supply of weapons and even then it's a long shot.

It just now occurred to me that we foolishly overlooked a 3rd key player in this debate: Ghosts.

That's right, ghosts.

While vampires & zombies must feed in order to survive, ghosts, on the other hand, merely need to slam the occasional pantry door or move one's car keys to a slightly altered position to fulfill their sense of personal gratification. And while history has proven that the only natural enemy to a ghost is Bill Murray & company, they certainly seem to be the most agile and stealth of nemeses compared to our other two more flesh-bound alternatives.
