The History of Disney California Adventure - AllEars.Net

Welcome. To the DCA Masterplan.

Disney's California Adventure has strayed from its ideals. Including intellectual property in the park is... acceptable, but what is important is how it is done. In the above mission plaque, Disney describes the fact that "This unique place embraces the richness and diversity of California..." Yet where is the diversity? Being taken over and mashed up by IP. Is the IP wholly representative of these dreams and stories? Is a hodgepodge of Pixar IP mashed into a "pier" land inspiring? Or heck, a giant chicken lunchbox thing (What even is that?)! What makes California California?

Here in the forums and everywhere, we have discussed this problem. Everywhere. And yet, our solutions to fix these ideas, are jumbled and unrealistic. This DCA Masterplan is a collage of ideas, culture, and combinations to make what DCA should be. DCA 3.0. This collaged master plan will consist of ideas from forums on fixing California adventure, competition ideas/projects, my own I n t e r e s t I n g ideas, and blog websites, specifically Parklore, Imagineerland, and Ideal Buildout. And so again, welcome, one and all, to California Adventure: a Masterplan Collage by Architectural Guinea Pig...

Maroon Studios could be perfect as mini area with some Roger Rabbit attractions: Toontown Transit/Trolley (simulator) and Baby Herman's Runaway Baby Buggy Ride for Hollywoodland area, the Maroon Studios mini area could've opened part of Hollywood Backlot Pictures during DCA's grand opening in 2001.

Dude Really @DisneyFan32 you really need to stop saying that to every project like seriously , Everytime someone post a new idea you came out & want it everything Roger Rabbit to every single project we made.

1 - THE BEGINNING OF A JOURNEY

When you enter a theme park, you want the entrance to set the tone of the journey you will adventure in. While the current entrance is inspired by the Pan-Pacific Auditorium in LA, it doesn't have the architecture of Buena Vista St. Even though it holds historical relevance, it has already been used for Hollywood Studious, so making a new entrance could be better. One solution to this is remodeling the entrance to look like the Burlingame Railroad Station in Burlingame, CA. This architecture of the train station is reminiscent of the Carthay Circle Theatre in the background, setting the scene for Buena Vista Street.

Aside from this, there are two other entrances to DCA for hotel guests, one from Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Pixar Place Hotel, which will be connected to the DisneylandForward expansion Plot.

BUENA VISTA STREET
DCA+2021+buena+vista+street+map.jpg

You have officially entered Disney's California Adventure. The first land you meet is Buena Vista Street. Here is a quote from Wdwinfo describing it:
"Buena Vista Street is a salute to 1920s and 30s Los Angeles, around the time that Walt Disney arrived in California. Stroll the tree-lined street, do some shopping, grab a snack, or take in the period street atmosphere entertainment. Carthay Circle at the end of the block features a beautiful fountain and a replica of the Carthay Circle Theater, where the premiere of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs was held back in 1937."

Attractions

-Red Car Trolley - board an authentic trolley on a nostalgic ride through Buena Vista Street and Hollywood.

Restaurant/Snacks

- Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge - dine in the Cathay Circle theatre, featuring references to Walt Disney and Snow White
-
Mortimer's Market
-Clarabelle's Hand Scooped Ice-Cream
-Fidler Fifer and Practical Cafe (Starbucks)

2 - UNDER THE STARS - Introduction
Hollywood sign in the sunset light with a dramatic sky - digital painting Digital Art by Nicko Prints - Fine Art America

HOLLYWOOD is the past, present, and future of cinematography. Tourists come here immersed under the stars, both figuratively and literally.

Meanwhile, DCA's Hollywoodland is the past, present, and future of utter shame. The past gave us Superstar Limo, which places us under the stars, assuming the stars are weird motionless bobbleheads. It gave us tacky theming and an ugly theater with ugly paint. Yes, Superstar Limo has flown to Yesterland, but the rest of the stuff... hasn't. Then, in the present, it gave us ip-shoveins, like Turtle Talk With Crush, Disney Junior Dance Party, and Monsters Inc. If Hollywoodland doesn't change in the future, we will have one bad tomorrow.

So in this Masterplan, this new version of Hollywood is a blend of classic intellectual property in a merger with the architecture of Hollywood. Some highlights of this refreshed land include Muppets Studios, a small courtyard area, and a refreshed theater, themed to TCL Chinese Theatre (Parklore). So I made a map.

1681787439601.png

Of course, I don't take credit for the entire Map. This is a Masterplan Collage, so this map is inspired and traced by Parklore's California Adventure Project.

THE MAP

Attractions (Muppets Courtyard)
- Muppets Movie Backlot Adventure (Playground)
-Muppets Parachute Drop (Flat ride, retheme of Jumpin' Jellyfish
- Muppet Theatre Presents (Show, with seasonal movie parody overlays and Roger Rabbit overlays)

Attractions (Hollywoodland)
- The Great Movie Ride (Black Box Version, changes for different movies)
- Animation Academy

2 - UNDER THE STARS - Hollywood Boulevard

Welcome to Hollywood Boulevard! This part of Hollywoodland is all about the real Hollywood, not the drab studio version of it that currently exists. In wdwmagic, a user suggested, "Finish the Hollywoodland remodel by replacing the false fronts, especially on the Hyperion." [Consumer, How would YOU fix DCA?]
Here is a quote from Parklore on fixing it:

"So now, gazing down Hollywood Blvd. from the Carthay, you’d see this…

FL_FzwkWQBMxgcr-1024x682.jpg

A wonderful, historic streetscape of rooftop billboards, dancing neon, Red Car Trolleys, and – at the street’s end – the historic Chinese Theater with the Hollywood Hills beyond (which are actually layered, textured flats serving to disguise the show building that the Chinese Theater facade connects to. (Enjoy my hasty photo-edit, above.) Using natural features to disguise show buildings is a big win for Hollywoodland, in my opinion, which would benefit from any reduction in visible soundstages or “cop-out” views"

In the map in the above post, you can see it put into action...

ATTRACTIONS SUMMARY - Hollywood Boulevard

(In the "Imagineer" forum, there is a very similar concept to this. If this looks like your concept, please send me the link.) Instead of Parklore's proposed Mickey's Runaway Railway, this show building of the TECL Chinese Theater will instead feature...

The Great Movie Ride
1676258791295.png

This ride was the magnum opus of MGM's studios, the beginning and end of your fabulous journey to Hollywood. The ride is both a classic and a modern marvel. Guests are immersed in this wonderful now non-guided dark ride that will take them into the movies... There are 3 sections to this ride, the beginnings, the legacy, and the new world.

The queue - Inside the show building, the queue is a "temporary" exibhit featuring Walt Disney, which has lots of interactive games, a cinema timeline, and Walt Disney memoir. This place is similar to the Walt Disney Family Musuem somewhere else in California!

The ride - There are three parts to the Great Movie Ride. The Beginnings, the Legacy, and the New World. After entering the main "theater", guests are suddenly transported to a world of black and white, in a garden scene with people looking up to the sky, where a face on the moon has a rocket implanted in it, then a train pulls in... After a few more silent black and white scenes, we reach a whistling tune of Mickey - steamboat willie, as seen in the introductions of Disney animation films, when see him driving the wheel of a boat, and then eerie music begins, and suddenly, the color sound starts flooding out, starting with the brooms scene from the sorcerer's apprentice, and then exiting into fantasia, and then the animation countryside with Mary Poppins. Here, we begin the legacy, as we exit the animation countryside into a London rooftop, where Marry Poppins and Company are singing and dancing. We have arrived at the legacy sections! Guests then move through scenes from classic movies, ending with Wizard of Oz. Then, the black box section! The new world... every year, the scenes are changed with the current popular movie, whether it's Encanto, or avatar 2, who knows!

A Trip to the Moon - Wikipedia
MoMA | Walt Disney, Ub Iwerks. Steamboat Willie. 1928
The Wild Way Mary Poppins Returns Recreated Its Animated Sequences | Cinemablend
Disney Encanto x CAMP | CAMP

RIDE OVERLAYS - during the august/september months, a muppets overlay takes over the great movie ride to celebrate its first appearnce! This turns The Great Movie Ride into the Great Muppet Movie Ride, the cancelled ride at Hollywood Studios. Another ovelay is from december to febuaray, which focuses on winter themed movies, like Home Alone or Frozen.

Ani
Animation Academy | Disney California Adventure Park
mation Academy

While the animation building with all those giant projections is a really great place to chill at, it is a really giant waste of space. So, the land from there, including the Disney Junior Dance Party theater, will be repurposed into Avengers Campus. However, Animation Academy and the store, Off the Page, remains. The Animation Academy experience is virtually the same thing, but the theming off the Academy hall is rethemed, as the current version is very ancient-looking, So, the room becomes themed to The Sorcerrer's Apprentice from Fantasia, with giant "papers" with magical projections placed along the room, similar to the Animation Building.

And tomorow... Muppets Courtyard!

And I went on an unspoken hiatus!
A note before continuing - the works of Parklore greatly inspire Hollywoodland, as you may have noticed! Though I may have also dreamt up similar ideas, Parklore was the first to speak out, and he made it amazing! Thank you so much!

2 - UNDER THE STARS - Muppets Courtyard
1682486311469.png

Welcome to Muppets Courtyard! This partially finished land residing in Hollywood Studios will arrive at Disney's California Adventure as a colorful fully developed world of the muppets. This area is a very paradoxical situation with three points:
1. Muppets Courtyard is built to look like a studio set
2. Muppets Courtyard contains hyperrealistic Muppets that live in the studio set.
3. Muppets Courtyard features Muppets filming movies, as Muppets Courtyard is a set featuring a set.
So to clarify this, Muppets Courtyard is a set for a film where the Muppets film.
Anyways... that didn't help.
The theme of the studio set, specifically, revolves around an unspecified city square in an unspecified city. The muppets here are doing some crazy things, slowly taking over the city. Some of these crazy things include:

1. Buying up every single apartment in the city, so throughout random times in the day, a Muppet will bang open a window and start singing.
2. Taking over the theater to create their own "classic" showings...
3. Make crazy experiments (Gonzo in particular) of flying through parachutes
4. Destroying a Hollywood History film museum
5. Making green pizza at PizzaRizzo
6. Waking around the courtyard, doing crazy things in front of tourists

ATTRACTIONS SUMMARY - Muppets Courtyard

Muppet Theatre Presents

A new theatre, the Muppet Theatre is now showing in Muppet Courtyard! Featuring different movies monthly, these unique DCA-exclusive shows contain high-quality animation, puppeteering, animatronics, scents, sounds, and wind. This theatre also features Roger Rabbit, Mickey, and Toontown overlays.

Muppets Parachute Drop

Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop - Wikipedia
This is a simple flat ride, a retheme of Jumpin Jellyfish at Paradise Gardens. The attraction features a queue through Bunsen and Beaker's Lab when suddenly gonzo crashes through the ceiling. Losing his airplane, the three decide on making something even better - parachutes! And who will be the lucky ones testing the new invention? The guests! Boarding the flimsy parachutes, guests will bounce up and down, getting great views of Muppets Courtyard.

Muppets Movie Backlot Adventure

In this world, Disney spent so much money fixing everything else in DCA, they couldn't bring the Great Muppie Movie Dark Ride to life
Fantastical and mysterious': Meow Wolf's latest immersive art experience to open in Las Vegas
, but they could... make a playground! This Muppet Movie Backlot Adventure involves kids and families going through different sets, featuring different movie parodies being filmed life by movies, and intertwined in the sets, monkey bars, slides, and so many more things, including interactive exhibits. With the Disney Play app, guests can also do a fun game, Where is Kermit?, finding the famous Muppet through different clues found everywhere.
