Source??? Opinion or Fact?
OK, I guess I have been lax and never read it. but, it doesn't really matter. One should assume that not everyone is familiar with it and had at least some way of linking that thought with anything real. It's ok though because my response was about the way that most of the time whenever anyone says some statement that has no backup, it is pounced on savagely. Its the first line from The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot.

Sorta, but the example that you used could be understood even if you didn't know Robert Frost said (wrote) it. It is a complete thought with a beginning, a middle and an end.No big deal, I'm sure there are multitudes of people who are not familiar with that line. I just happened to know where it came from. Kinda like if the OP had said something like:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
I would have immediately known it was a Robert Frost reference.
If OP had posted something from, say opera, or Shakespeare, I would probably have no idea.
